o/

so im here tyo ask which t3 would be best suited for this.

i dont plan on takin into low sec on a constant basis but it will go there
missile skills are meh
gun skills are non existant
great drone skills
maxxed probe skills
about equal shield and armor tankin skills
would like to still carry a hacking, archeology, salvager and probe gear
covert configuration is a must here

based on this i kinda narrowed it down to a legion or proteus. but is a tengu and loki even suited given the situation? i dont much care about training time. any ideas, input or fits?

Thought about a Gnosis? Its a pretty versatile ship, even though not the fastest out there but its just perfect for exploring when not skilled to the max.

Drones and covops are incompatible (same subsys slot), and covops is certainly not a must. Covert Proteus can only field one flight of light drones (it has a decent drone bay tho)

Only viable real drone T3 is Proteus, which is also the best all-in-one exploration ship due to ample supply of utility high slots.

Don't go to lowsec from highsec, move there and you will avoid 99% of gate camps.

seriously, look at a gnosis..it does everything you need/asked for just now. and its very forgiving of your lack of weapons skills.

as for covertness.....i put a cloak on EVERY ship that has a utility high (personal quirk i quess).....just saying, you dont need a subsystem restricting you to a configuration to cloak your ship effectively

kill em all.

exactly. MWD + Cloak and everything should be fine. No CovOps really needed for lowsec.

i had considered the gnosis but seeing it as a collector ship and a prime suicide gank away from a killbaord post i decided against it. but given the feedback and thinkin about it at work i might just reconsider. also i wanted a cov ops claok simply cuz i got spoiled by the buzzard

I plan to experiment with the Gnosis for exploration here this week, but in general I use a Pilgrim for exploration at the moment. Biggest hurdle for it is Cruiser 5 and Astrometrics 5 (for the DSP), but it's a really good ship.

I'd honestly use an Arbitrator, Vexor, Ishtar, or Gila in your position. Probably Ishtar, though the Arbitrator could be sexy times too.

Drones and covops aren't incompatible. The Proteus gets expanded drone bay from the power grid subsystem in engineering. Considering in lowsex you only need lime 200 DPS for fast clear times you can easily use that as primary damage, supplemented by blasters or rails.

I mean you're gonna be using 3 highs for exploration gear anyways, so you're only gonna have like 3 turrets...why not go drones?

And while were on drones, the pilgrim is perfect for you. Its not t3 so you'll need to rig it with grav cap rogs for scan strength, but it(sadly) out damages some t3s when fit for lowsec exploration. Downsides are slow, lack of agility, and lack of scan bonus. Upside is fantastic drone damage and stupidly cheap compared to t3.

I have used the Pilgrim to great effect for lowsec exploration. Covert cloak is really helpful.

For those who note that the covert sub of the Proteus takes the same slot as the drone sub, that's fine. Carry both. Use the covert sub for travel and scanning; when you find sites you want to run, dock up, swap your subs, run your site. I do this with my Tengu and it works out really well.

If you don't want to fly a gank magnate you should reconsider flying a T3 :P

Seriously though, the Gnosis is one of the best hisec exploration options right now outside of T3s. Mine does everything I could ask for when running through complexes, and best of all, you already have one :D Just fit it up with whatever weapon/tank combo you want (Mine happens to be an active tanked autocannon boat) and go have some fun.

Gnosis can't do some (most?) Of the Ded rated hisec plex as a BC though where as a strat cruiser can. Honestly I have not done hisec exploration since they took out the static ded's so I can only guess how significant that is. For the occupation sites gnosis would be massive over kill I think though

i don't see why people are saying they won't fly the Gnosis because it's a special edition ship. In October, hundreds of people will be getting 5 run BPCs in the CE and selling them, they aren't that limited.

I would be willing to bet that, given the relative rarity of the hull and extreme likely hood of terrible fits, the attrition rate will be quite high. Just think back to the "my first drake" syndrome so common to new players. Now here is an extra shiney BC hull with even less time to rush into.

A few hundred 5 runs and +1 per account can come out to a couple hundred thousand at most? That is unless they periodically release more BPCs into circulation of course and I will freely admit I haven't looked into how/if CCP plans to distribute them. Assuming it isn't reissued I'd bet a year tops until it is decidedly rare.
