Where's the Variety

I've been playing Eve for about half a year, most of which has been logging on to update my skill queue.

I haven't been playing actively because I can't seem to immerse myself in Eve's environment. Everything is black, empty, or looks like some minor variation of some other object.

All the ships, structures, environment, missions, etc.. look and feel so similar.

This may come across as me ranting about Eve, which I suppose it is, but in all reality I've just been waiting for a company to make a product that really upped the ante compared to what has been done in previous MMORPGs. I was really hoping I would find this when I switched to Eve, but since it has been out for over a decade I suppose I should have known better.

Space is black and empty. Im sorry CCP injected that little bit of RL fact into your submarine spaceship game.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Then sit back and wait for someone to write the game you dream of.

In the mean time there's a little bunch of us who are quite happy with this one.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Oh dear.

I would contend that you have not really being playing Eve for about half a year then. I'd say roughly "about half a year" minus "most of which".

Also, confirming: Space is mostly black and empty. If you were to fly your ship about a bit, you might help to fill a small portion of it.

[insert random rubbish that irritates you personally] is further evidence that Eve is dying/thriving*

I dig what you're saying man, I do. Whenever I bring a new chick back to my parent's basement, I'd turn out all the lights, and mostly they'd all feel about the same. More or less. Then I expanded my thinking. Opened my willingness to explore. Date outside of my comfort zone.

Low and behold, even in the blackness of my basement, rolling around on the couch, I could fee the difference... and some of it was just in my mind. I'm a new man.

Perhaps a metaphor for the world of Eve, no?

You have to immerse yourself in the player created organizations and gameplay, not the station models and backgrounds...

If you really do want that kind of unique PVE gameplay, head out to wormhole space. Have you joined a wormhole corp yet?

Hey. Have you tried playing the game? Rather than adoring the pretty moving pictures?

Eve is what you make of it.

If you sit and wait for content to be handed over, you will end up disappointed.

The new graphics on the ships are sex on a stick, as are the spacescapes you fly through. Try turning it up to max next time you go through (erm, I mean of course, past) a planet.

I find space (on the rare occasion I undock) to be anything but dark.

That, and the new jump gate animation is truly accident in pants...cant wait for June 4th Smile

Eve is not a game that immerses you, it's a game that you immerse yourself in. Usually you do this by getting involved in the player corps and/or events. The game doesn't hold your hand any longer than it has to and even then it only teaches you the very basics.

As for the ships, structures, environment, missions and all of that, the ships and structures are all tied into the feel of the races, the environment is space (a vast open blackness with few and far between), and everyone who plays Eve knows the missions are terrible. The gameplay is based on player interaction, so go and find a group of players to interact with and you will enjoy the game a whole lot more.

If you want some suggestions on corps, try Brave Newbies or RvB.

We dont have very advanced spaceship technology IRL atm, or very advanced stations, but we can walk in them. And what do you know, when you introduce a light source you can see inside them. Seems in fact the problem lies within your own words, "little bit of realism".

Seriously, its why my wife and kid don't play, along with many others.

Soundwaves vision of Eve is legendary. Eves current incarnation IS lacking compared to other games.

"a little bit of realism" =/= everything must be realistic.

If that's what you want, then just shut off your PC and go outside.

then why are you playing it? every game is lacking compared to other games in some respects, thus making your statement pointless.

The variety in Eve is undocking your ship, meeting the other players, and having no real clue as to what they're going to do to or with you.

You might undock your mining ship to go and mine with some fellows you met in local.

What you don't know is that in the next system, they have two catalysts waiting to kill you so that they can take your loot. Or they can have an Orca that will give you boosts and you'll be friends for years.

Or the person below you in the station guest list, the one in the NPC corp is maybe following the Orca owners around, and will provide intel about you to a war-decc corp in the next region.

I don't see how not ever really knowing what to expect in the interactions with others can be construed as lack of variety.

Eve is not really you v. the environment. Not even when you shoot NPC rats and dock in NPC stations and get missions from NPC characters. It is not that simple. Eve, in every little bit, is player versus player. Only fools believe that PVP is only about blowing up a spaceship.

Well said.

There's also lots to see if you fly around.

I said nothing about what I want or don't want, I explained why many people don't play it.

While you may have a snide attitude about it, it matters a lot to CCP. From what I understand its much more an upper management/investor issue than a dev issue.
