This is not me whining or bitching. I quite Enjoy EvE atm!

Currently when im looking at the ship changes, both the ones which has happened, and the ones which are coming this summer, im wondering, have they forgotten about the racial roleplay of the game?

Each Race used to have a certain aspect to them which was unique to them.

--Amarr were the Bulky, EHP Monsters with perfect mid-long range weaponry.

--Gallente were the Active tanking, face melting drones boats.

--Caldari were the ECM and Long range multiple damage boats.

--Minmatar were the Jack of all trades, the scavengers of EvE, relaying on Speed and capless Projectile weapons.

Im just wondering if im the only one feeling like that race don't matter anymore? People who have specialized in one race wont be ''special'' anymore.

To be honest races haven't mattered for years if ever, it's just for storyline etc plus if you want roleplay your about 20 years too late just ask Micheal Hutchance.

Amarr ships still have good mid range. The geddon will add new power to their mid range line up.

Gallente are having their drone ship more focused on drones. Active armor tanking was worked on somewhat.

Caldari are getting their long range weapon improved greatly. Their ECM boat is getting a HP buff.

Minmatar arn't losing any speed and their isn't anyone else that will be using projectiles. Their mass is getting reduced which is an indirect buff to speed.

Sure amarr are using drones a bit more and minmatards are getting some more missile options. But they've always had some drones and some missile options.

Ships are just tools, what matters is you use them to liberate universe from those Amarr and Caldari bastards.

And this too especially. All these people are freakign out they are are homogenizing all of EVE and everyone is gonna be the same because "AMARR DRONE BOAT?! WHAT IS THIS FAGGORTY?!?!" and they fail to realize this is nothing new. We already had the arbitrator and its T2 variants and anyone who doesn't make full use of the current geddon's drone bay has been missing out.

Now we'll simply have a definitive line within the Amarr ship for drone users. Just one line of ships all the way up to battleship. The missile ships for Minmatar are working the same way.

The Minmatar are still fast and the amarrians are still slow. Fundamentally they haven't changed.

From the standpoint of racial specialization, nothing prevents a player from remaining true to just one path. CCP isn't forcing anyone into learning to fly ships not from their race. If anything CCP supports roleplay by remaining neutral and letting the player base decide for themselves.

As for the presence of roleplay in the game, it is true of any MMO that roleplay only exists if you are willing to see and take part. The reality is that most people have an expectation of what constitutes RP and any emergent gameplay outside of this expectation fails to register.

As a possible example, I offer the case of a pretty well known player. His notoriety comes from the fact that he has a very successful career in EvE getting into corporations for the purpose of awoxxing and then blogs about his exploits. Awesome blog by the way Smile. Whether or not he sees what he does as RP is not required, others might or might not based on their individual expectations.

I personally can easily see and accept his emergent play as a form of RP.

I remember back in the early days of Ultima Online....Twisted

There's a lot of RP going on in New Eden. Proof.

I think what OP is trying to get at is that your chosen race should matter than it does.

Whether it did or didn't in the past doesn't matter much.

I agree with OP though. The only difference in the races is starting skills and aesthetics.

It would make the world more dynamic if your race mattered more. How it could matter more is up to discussion.

The issue was that once one ship is "special", everyone specializes in that one ship.

You end up with a fleet of 10 drakes and 10 tengus vs. a fleet of 10 hurricanes and 10 sleepners.

The goal is to create roles for each ship, then balance the race's abilities to perform those roles, so that EVERY ship has a purpose, gets used, and fleets are composed of a wide variety or ships.

I like it.

So, new players start a new account... only to learn a coulpe weeks later, that they picked the "wrong" race. So then they have to start a new toon.

This is what happened back in the day when your bloodline and school determined your starting skills. CCP wanted to get away from the "decisions that you make before you understand the game, greatly effect your game experience" issue.

Alternatives is a good thing, y'know.
When a ship is more flexible (within reason) its alot more fun to fly.
So whats more important in a game? That the ships are more fun? Or that some made up "roleplay reality" of some random guy who plays the game is being followed? (Who ever said that amarr cant have a droneboat?)

Get lost. The geddon has now replaced the dominix as the best armour droneboat; CCP really overlooked the fact that you cannot snipe in an armour battleship effectively outside of highsec without having a mahusive goddamn fleet and then you may as well have guns.
