The art aesthetic EVE so casually threw away

While EVE isn't strictly cyberpunk it certainly has its roots there. We have corporations which have become far more important than nation states, individuals with demigod-like abilities, the smallest financial considerations of the wealthy being beyond the dreams of avarice for the U^2C...

Certainly I miss some of the "punk" aspects of the old art style... And I want my Qui Gon Jinn hair back.

Now we're left with the incomplete clothing options, useless captain's quarters and a lack of imagination.

By the way I just want to clarify something. This final sentence is not meant to be critical of CCP. What we have so far in terms of character art, clothing and CQ is great. And the upcoming extra-vehicular content was exciting.

However it's certainly unfinished and this does render CQ a completely useless feature other than cosmetic appeal (or nicer trailers). And this is coming from a player who will walk around the quarters to physically click on services rather than directly access the neocom on the side of the screen. Blink

I actually like the new portrait feature. The only things i miss are some of the old clothing and backgrounds of pirate factions.

My old Avatar used to have a cool looking bluish grey uniform Jacket + something like a googleglass eyepiece for military use... at least it looked like it would be.

I sacrificed that all for the tattoo above my left eye...

Gallente women also had those weird huge shoulders. Then there were the innumerable hairpieces. I miss my old wardrobe with the tendril-blouse: http://evefaces.com/?mara%20rinn

I wonder if there is any way for us new players to have a look at ourselves using the old avatar styles.

Well, there is a EVE emulator, i think you can use it to create some of the old avatars, if you really want it.

BTW it's could be i nice feature to play with an old avatars via EVE website, why not?

in 2007 i've thought it's a sci-fi simulator, not an "e-sports" game. I'm not a teenager, how would i like it much?

I think the OP answered their own question with that link. Who thinks that looks good? Gaudy, poor taste...it looks horrid. No wonder they changed the style.

I agree that the OP's link isn't to my taste, but to be honest I expected a lot more stuff for people to buy from the noble store than there is; for people who do find that kind of thing to their taste I think there should be choice.

That said, I'm not fond of the idea that devs work on out of pod experience stuff atm.

I've said somewhere on these forums before that a system much like Valve's user content for Team Fortress 2 would be a great asset to EVE online in my opinion. I wouldn't have thought it would be that hard to skin a standard t-shirt, add corp/alliance tattoos and portrait backgrounds to the store for a start. Additional income for CCP for little risk, additional income for the content creators (provided CCP follow Valve's model.) If successful, it might give CCP some incentive to expand what users could create for more complicated things that would keep the OP happy....maybe.

As with many of the other things people complain about in this game, we did it to ourselves.

CCP was working on the character generator and then the player base set fire to the statue in Jita and CCP balled up their plans, dusted off their hands, and decided they didn't need the headache.

NOW you want to ***** because they did what we forced them to do? Too little, too late. HTFU.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

Unfortunately I started this game when the new CC was already in place. As far as sculpting goes, I consider EVE's CC to be one of the best. You can make really nice characters with them, and although things like hairstyles will ensure a few people will look alike, there is great variety in the characters we create.

These cool additions should come back tho, I would love the inclusion of more visors and weird electronic cyberpunk elements. The initial Incarna rage was mainly about these objects being so damn expensive right? I'm sure people would have liked vanity items better if they didn't have such a crazy pricetag.

UghPart of why I miss the old avatars was because the old Gallente were flamboyantly futuristic and weird to the point they seemed alien, and that was why they were awesome.

Now we look pretty bland. I tried to restore some of the craziness and Cyberpunk of the old Gallente with the intentionally mismatched hair color to the outfit and weird facial tattoo but it's just not the same...

Just look at the difference. Admittedly the new avatars look less like creepy zombies but at the expense of so much awesome...

I agree with a few of the other people in this thread. Don't get upset over having fewer character options after the display of spaceship-rage back in 2011. You wanted more spaceship content, so deal with it. Meanwhile I'll be waiting, while simultaneously enjoying my EVE experience, regardless.

I'm not a friend of this (not so) new character generator. I loved my old picture ... classic Gallente Jin-Mei highborn wearing her hair ornaments with pride. Today? More like a Minmatar with dread locks. Back then i had hope, that CCP would let us keep our old pics. Then they deleted the old pics. It was still possible to log in without creating a new avatar. Then we were forced to create a new one. Amarr pictures were great, Minmatar and Gallente too. Caldari were ... well just Caldari Big smile
Today everyone looks equal and there is no difference between the people from different empires.

That's how i used to look like:

The new Character Creator is an amazing piece of technology. I know of no other game which has such exceptional capabilities in this area. It's unfortunate that the different races feel so similar, and I really do miss some of the weird but cool sci-fi stuff the old system used to have.

Embedded circuits. Strange visors. Futuristic sci-fi clothing. A lot of the clothing in Eve feels dark and gothic - which is cool in its own way but it doesn't feel very futuristic. If nothing else, the default clothing options for each race should have a unique style.

Sign me up for more exotic/alien/futuristic options and fewer t-shirts (seriously, what's with that? Guild Wars 2 has hoodies, too. Do people want to look like they just walked out of Aeropostale in every possible medium?). Not that I expect them any time soon, but it would be far more immersive, and consonant with the huge amount of EVE lore.

Besides, we're impossibly rich, power-mad demigods. We should be able to look the part.

Nobody put a gun to your head and forced you to design a character that looks like a facebook profile photo.

EVE online is the fishermans friend of MMO's. If it's too hard you are too weak.
