I can no play Eve!?!?!?!

Scandalous!!! Shocked

So you came to Eve because of downtime "features" and not content? I heard WoW now has pretty good uptime!

HTFU? Not everyone has a bank holiday today.
No, you are not special.

As an Aussie, and as someone who lives in the NT, we had the May Day holiday today...

Perfect time for extended downtime... Just prior to sunset, few beers, take in the world...

And wonder just why everyone else is whinging...

Loving Eve... Happy Birthday :)

Thing about major patches... you should just set a long skill to train and allow for an entire day for the server to be stable again.

In all fairness, though, CCP's track record at getting patches running has greatly improved since they went to the incremental system of "mini patches" for adding content.

Hey atleast eve does not break the game on patch day (for the most part). WOW breaks everytime they release a patch, so you have 1/2 day downtime and then the other half of people not able to get patch and connect. I think EVE does fairly well at implementing patches.

If we could just get them to install the iWin button for people Roll

Don't be mean, guys. It's a perfectly normal question :)

Nobody likes long downtimes, including us. Which is why we've done a lot to decrease the time needed to do daily maintenance and scheduled upgrades. Oh, and we've also really decreased the odds of TQ having unexpected problems and crashes as you've probably all noticed if you're been around for a while.

To answer the question, the UK is our 2nd-3rd biggest market and we will generally try to schedule downtimes outside prime play times. Sorry we couldn't do that this time around!

Hi all

One of the main features for me coming to the game was the lack of random and extended downtimes, also when patches happened they arrived on a Tuesday, a day I don't play much.

I've logged in today to find the game will be down for almost 7 hours on a Bank Holiday (estimated time).

Is this normal to take the game down during potentially busy times?

Only reason I'm asking is that I came here from SWTOR where the continual downtimes (many unannounced, you suddenly found yourself kicked out of the game and it down 'indefinitely') made trying to play the game a nightmare.

meh, it meant more time to play Defiance :D

Two of the defining characteristics of a carebear are wanting other players to play the way the carebear wants and whining on the forums for the game to change when they don't. Yet I see more threads on these forums from gankers than I do miners whining about wanting the game changed to suit them.

You still havent answered why it was only announced at such a stupid time. 23.52 for an 0800 DT means a lot (like myself) had no idea until trying to log on.

Now if you are asking us to accept that it couldnt be scheduled at any other time, fine, but can you please say why the advance notification for this was so poor?

Back in the old days downtimes were indeed much much longer. I seem to remember a 24 hour downtime as well ;)

I would think that pretty much every day, is a bank holiday, somewhere on the planet. It is a global game.

thanks for the replies, I haven't been in the game long and would rather leave than go through the SWTOR experience again.

but if its just a rare occurrence then back to mining.

When Oddessey goes live (June 4th) you can probably expect EVE to be offline for at least 12 hours, and you should plan (skillqueues, tower fuel etc) for 24. Plus there's usually a restart or two as people discover a hilarious bug to exploit. CCP usually start expansion DT at 08:00 EVE time or so.

But once per 6 months isn't too onerous. Just make other plans for that day, avoid the slow patch downloads, login queues, server restarts

EVE and DUST are developed in Reykjavík, Iceland and Shanghai, China. TQ is updated and operated from Reykjavík, Iceland (even if it's located in London, England). While we try and not conflict with major holidays around the world then holidays in Iceland and China are the primary factors for our work schedule.
