L4 Mission ship, Amarr vs Minnie

Afternoon folks \o

Just a general opinion question on which ship would best suit me for getting in L4's with a mate. It will be in Angel/Gursitas space and he will most probably be flying an Abaddon.

Just curious as to which BS will be a good fit along side him and of a suitable level for L4's. Been looking at the Abaddon, Apoc, and Maelstrom as possibilities and just curious as to people's experiences with them.

Cheers,

Polo

Amarr laser ships are crap against anything except Sansha and Blood Raiders.

They're also fantastic against Drones, and acceptable against everything else. The only thing I would hate to shoot at with them is Angels. For everything else, they are hitting either a primary or secondary resist hole.

The Abaddon is more at home in PVP fleet battles; it can bring a ton of firepower to bear, but it's a capacitor-hungry monster, though Odyssey changes are supposed to help that a bit by reducing laser turrets' capacitor use. The Apocalypse has been more of a go-to boat for Amarr PVE, though again, Odyssey's changing things a bit, taking away its capacitor bonus. Both of them have the problem that they're locked into EM and Thermal damage, which is great against enemies like Blood Raiders and Sansha, but against enemies like Angels, you'll be shooting into their peak resist.

The Maelstrom is an entirely different beast; it has selectable damage types that don't use any capacitor at all, and can tune its shield tank to handle just about anything.

Oh, and when Odyssey goes live, the Armageddon will be converted into a true drone boat, which should have the versatility to handle just about any L4 mission.

Can't speak with personal experience on Amarr ships, but the Maelstrom is a great and flexible mission platform. Autocannons will tear through Angels real quick, but you may need the extra range of artillery for Guristas.

If he's flying a baddon try to cap chain with him. It will solve his cap problem and maybe be a nice addition to your own. For ships that have a nice utility high check out the tempest, megathron, armageddon, raven and dominix.

Since it seems you either want to fly amarr or minmatar I would highly recommend the tempest over the geddon as it allows damage selection and shooting laz0rs at angels is a futile and time-wasting venture.

Your friend will have to drop a turret but in exchange for cap stability I think it's more than worth it.

Is the Tempest, it won't be stable but it shouldn't need to be, has 2 outgoing ET and requires a 1% cpu implant to all fit.

Combined DPS of both ships is over 1200 with guns alone and they hit out to around 50km as an optimal engagement distance.

Lol, a Pest and Abaddon with 7 guns shooting Angels... 1200 dps combined? Really? And after resists you're down to... 600 dps combined? Real boats get 1200 dps solo, btw. Roll

Failing that, get yourselves 2x maels. 8 ACs, 4 gyros, 3 scripted TC/TEs.

After the patch Geddon's will be missile boats.. so train those and your amarr skills will not be wasted.

well i did say not including drones :p

and of course I tailored my answer to the needs of the OP, not just say "get x ship with x fitting".

It's pretty easy to come up with stock answer for every question, whether or not it's relevant or useful to the person asking is a different matter.

Using lasers on Angels/Guristas is pretty brutal as you're shooting their higher resists. You can ask your friend to fit artillery on his Abaddon (it doesn't take long to train t1 guns and I'm assuming he has good gunnery support) and I think it will still do more damage than lasers even without the damage bonus.

For you use a Maelstrom, Autocannons for Angels and Artillery for Guristas. For tank run a X-Large Shield Booster + 3 Hardeners + Cap Booster.

Mael is the best out of what you suggested, Mach is best overall. Use the Mael and train towards the mach.

Because once the rats realize you're in a real boat they turn off their hardeners. In your own words, lol.

That's one way to think of it. 80% down to 40%, just like hardeners off to base resist.

Say no too all the naysayers and fly your baddon genst them pesky angels. They wont know what hit them Cool

On a serious note if you do, it will be very hard and frustrating. I only do it because I am a stubborn amarrian elitist.

I think what you were saying is that using 2 proper ships would do 1200 each, not that 1 ship doing 1200 DPS would be better than 2 doing 600?
