Hi,

Newb question.

For a navy Mega for incursions (I'm poor and working my way up to Vindicator), why would I choose a Neutron Blaster II over a the meta 4 variant?

I can find one stat on the tech 2 version that is better yet I see fitting after fitting posted in Ditanian fleet with the NBIIs.

What am I missing?

Two things.

First, T2 weapons benefit from the specialization skill (in the case of guns, this directly increases damage mod by 2%/level). So, more damage -- up to 10% more.

Second, T2 ammunition. Need range? Load Null. Need tons of damage done to a webbed target? Void. Only T2 guns can use T2 ammo, so... there you go.

Always good to have AWU 4 or 5 before T2 gunz though... T2 Guns are awesome

I agree on almost everything you just said except for T2 ammo.

The +dps you should get out of it is completely negated by the tracking penalty unless you're on top of some carrier.
At BS size the guns miserably fail = "miss", you're a lot better with faction antimatter hitting 100% from top range to lower range, I only use long range blaster T2 ammo to fear some idiots because the dmg ...well you know, if you have to shoot something past 20km you better warp of if you can.

Not mandatory for Vindi. It benefits from generous grid.

Null isn't bad, especially with bonused webs, and give blasters some much needed range.

Void usually isn't worth using.

For incursions Null helps alot in OTA's letting you apply dps earlier if you're competing and with webs can still track well enough to blow up frigates that get close. Void is for fun when you're the only vindy in an NCO and not competing to stroke your epeen with number.

also T2 weapons > meta 4. If you compare t2 guns to faction guns then the weapon specialization skill has to be at least 3, with 4 and 5 giving a more noticable dps increase. Also if you're xing up with t2 weapons it also means you have the base weapon skill to V already while meta guns automatically assume you have at best weapons to IV which means less damage.

Meta 4 People say they get about the same Damage but they usually keep that Turret Lvl at 4.

A big thing is the Damage. Getting L Hybrid V is +5% but then in a couple of days you can bring Spec to 3 making your total 11%, 13% if you bring it to IV. It really adds up fast.

That is on top of T2 Ammo.
