Having gone back and read all of your posts, reviewing your countless well-versed and educated prose on a variety of EVE subjects, I have to say I totally understand you. You "get" Eve in a way nobody else has. Your amazing grasp of all the important aspects of this game we share leaves me stunned and speechless.

The polite, but never argumentative debates you have simply proves you are the person my next CSM votes should go to.

There's just one tiny problem. No monocle. The monocle is the one item that proves, without a doubt, the authenticity and awesomeness the holder has. You don't have one. My vote goes to Monk. Better luck next time, my iskless uneducated friend.

I actually think Holeysheet1 for CSM would be awesome. CSM is pretty useless anyway. I would probably vote for him just as a big "**** you" to the whole process. And it would be pretty funny to imagine the looks on everybody's faces when he showed up in Iceland across the table from guys like Teg and Trebor. Of course, CCP would never actually allow that to happen, but it is fun to think about.

Oh my gosh, I read all about you and you still exist. Why do you still exist? I don't see any text that wasn't obviously typed with your feet. I think I'd sooner put Trebor back on the ballot than see you have any position of authority anywhere. Please stop trying and failing to troll the Pirate King. Instead, you should be inviting him to your corporation to award him a medal for how great he is.

You complain of lies and slander about you whilst editing a "quoted" post. I'm not sure you understand it, but let it suffice to say that you're suckling your toes again.

Also, I read some logs of your chats, and...well, thank you for the fine, hilarious reading material. I still don't understand why you think you're some irreplaceable, forward thinker. You don't do anything particularly interesting. You just..well, blow hard. Yes. It took me a while to think of an adequate title, but that's it. I, the Strawberry King of New Eden, do dub thee Holeysheet1, Lord of the Blowhards.

Let's not be too hasty here. We've been discussing the CSM here, and I think the bestowing of such titles should be a similarly democratic process.

With that in mind, +1 vote from me.

Psychotic Monk,

We had an aspiring awoxer in our corp get murdered today. He's just a kid though and he could really use some guidance. I encourage you to reach out to him (Jor Erkja) so he can learn from those that have a real gift for this sort of game play. While I don't necessarily condone this kind of behavior, I do consider it a genuine part of Eve culture, and he's a good kid at heart. Perhaps you'd be willing to help him out.

Contract me the Vindicator and the PLEX (preferably in Dodixie 9_20 but I'm easy on this) and you will get my vote next year. I'll still support Monk, but I can be bribed.

I see some people here do not know the definition of piracy.

According to the Oxford Dictionary piracy is defined as: "the practice of attacking and robbing ships at sea.".
So technically, piracy is impossible in EVE as there is no in-game environment that can be classified as "sea".

Wikipedia seems to be a tiny bit more flexible in this area: "Piracy is typically an act of robbery or criminal violence at sea."

When one extends this definition to include space, most of the activities described can be classified as "space piracy".

Proof (excuse my repetition):

For an act to be classified as space piracy, it has to include either robbing a third party or have some other form of criminal violence in space.

  • Nullsec pirates shoot at third parties (although this can not be classified as an act of criminal violence), and also rob when there is something to rob. This satisfies both requirements, making it an act of piracy.
  • Lowsec pirates shoot at third parties, and also rob when there is something to rob. This satisfies both requirements, making it an act of piracy.
  • Highsec awoxers shoot at third parties (although this can not be classified as an act of criminal violence), and also rob when there is something to rob. This satisfies at least one of the two requirements, making it an act of piracy.
  • Highsec gankers shoot at third parties, and also rob when there is something to rob. This satisfies both requirements, making it an act of piracy.

QED.

Conclusion and tl;dr:
You're all pirates so shut up and go blow up more ships. Pirate

Can we stop arguing about who is and who isn't a pirate and get back to stealing ships in Jita and raid, pillage, plunder and otherwise pilfer our weasely black guts out?

Space in Eve is technically liquid, it most certainly is not space as we know it in real life, ergo space in Eve can be classified as a sea, because it certainly acts like a large body of water. It's known as a submarine simulator for good reason. P

You're right though, piracy covers many things, including the activities of the OP as well as those of the lowsec guys.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Even in real life, pirates don't go hi water, else they won't survived the high seas, mostly they go lo to mid water. In somalia most pirates uses fast small boats with tons of fuel and guns. so not gonna happen. Just eave the hisec for wardec/gankers/scammers/awoxers/FW. DROLL! RollShockedShocked

/Sigh...such a great thread ruined by such myopic selfishness of the self-styled "élite." Is this all the EVE-community is now?

Right, now then:

The definition of piracy in any practical sense is much, much more broad than "I R BLINKY-BLINKY PIWWATE! FEER MEH!!11ONEONE" That is pure semantic games for self-justification, no more, no less.

In practical terms, what PsychMonk does is (space-)piracy, in the truest sense of the word:

Robbing the un-prepared/unsuspecting for profit and/or lols whilst minimising their risk and maximising their potential gain. The true pirate is pragmatic, and couldn't care less about "space Bushido."

By practical definition --which, of necessity, must be broad, as no two contexts in which piracy can happen in a game as deep as EVE are ever exactly alike-- a street-mugger and a bank-robber are also a type of pirate.

Where are the street-mugger (for EVE: SuiGanker), the bank-robber (Ransoming ninja-baiter among others, if those can even still exist :/), the grifter (AWOX), the confidence-trickster (AWOX again, and scams of almost any type) going to go?

Where the potential profit is greatest, that is, where the most targets are -- this, like it or not, will always be hisec. All the more so because all too many hisec targets think that they don't have to be pro-active about their own defense: That much less risk, that much more potential gain. Nothing wrong, and a great many things right with this, in the mind of a practical/rational pirate.

His Artful Deviousnes didn't make it in. Damn, that makes little Lyrra haz a sad :(

Macalnis getting in is a good thing overall though, I think.

Run again next year, Monk, you are needed.

Oh and to the self-righteous thinks-he's-black-but-is-really-white knight above nattering on about "defenseless" hisec corps:

They are not defenseless. At all. They choose to leave themselves defenseless. Big difference in a universe where choice/consequence actually matter.
