I think you are overthinking this. lol

Most men like their main character (themselves) to be surrounded by a harem of pretty females that don't talk back and dont shout at them for not doing chores (their alts) :) Just like in real life.

Also the b@@b issue is a strong determining factor.

Man, you people resort to some pretty amazing mental gymnastics and accusations to defend how weird it is for you guys to be playing female characters, and especially roleplaying as them. Lol But no one ever said the player base in EVE was anywhere within 100 miles of normal.

By their fruit you will recognize them.

Statistically enough people are born hermaphrodites that they should be included in this discussion, shame on you op, shame.

It's not weird to play a female character. I'm sure everyone here has some female TV or movie characters that they like. Making one on EVE is no different. You are making a character. That's it. The end. People been doing this on RPG's and MMO's since the dawn of time. Too much couch-psychology babble going on in here. It's 2013 people, these types of discussions are so archaic.

Here's the thing. Akirei is not me. She is not a reflection of me or even just an analogy. She's just Akirei.

I am not some spacesip-piloting, suicidally aggressive asian tomboy IRL.

I've never understood people who link their characters with themselves, TBH.

It depends I suppose. I identify with Kytayn. In game, he is me. I have female alts that I do not identify with. They are characters I manage or direct.

I think there are a number of levels people create and use avatars for:

  • Identity - the character is a representation of you
  • Masquerade - the character is a representation of who you want people to think you are
  • Propriety - They are not me but they are mine. This can range from viewing the character as a pet, a child, a favored pupil, to something more unseemly like ownership of a slave or minion.
  • Convenience - Don't care about the character just didn't want to look at dude/dudette all day

My female characters tend to be a combination of the last two.

Be careful in Pulsar systems, you might get Pod Flu.

Androgyny is way cuter than excessive cleavage. ^_^

For myself, yeah, I like Anyura's image but then I'm from the Bloodline times as well and Khanid males were not just hit with the ugly stick but also with the ugly Titan and then podded by a Lachesis.

Why does no one say that it's weird to be playing a space pirate when you're clearly not one in real life.

Who cares what gender your picture is?

I got a female friend to play EVE.

She made a male char, and judging by a post on her facebook she went for the perfect man in her most humble opinion.

Caldari, completely bald and with piercings seem to be what she likes best.

I'm not convinced.

It never even crossed my mind to pick a girl.

There's got to be some Freudian subtextual explanation for that.

Yeah all those people who play RPGs are so frikken weird, amirite? /sarcasm

This whole topic is absurd.

Let people do what they want to do. It isn't any of your business whether they're male or female unless said player happens to divulge that information voluntarily. And stop flirting with female characters, because obviously it's going to keep spawning topics like this.

Defend? I've had to explain to people who are trapped in gender essentialism that playing a woman and playing a man (in text) is about 80% identical, and the differences tend to be in the details.

To say that a man can't play a woman, or that a woman can't play a man, is to say that neither gender can feel empathy toward the other. I call BS on that. There are people who have never tried to develop empathy for other genders, but that's their problem.

Oh...by the way.

Men have been playing women since at least the time of the ancient Greeks. This ain't some MMO thing. It's more about semi religious drivel spit out by people who are afraid of their own sexuality.

Just sayin'

My main is male. Female alt is a change of pace. It really doesn't make any difference except being slightly more fun to customize in character creator.

So it's a B@@B thing. I should have guessed.

More like how it's near impossible to make a male character that actually looks like a badass.

We Achura beg to differ.

Cool

My alt is female.

Same modus operandi for all games for me.
Male - Female - Male - ...
That's just how i do it I guess.

i guess the homophobe people in this thread that say you should get a male char if you are a male look funny at me now :p

it is a game about space ships hwo cares what gender your char is
