Directional Scanner Tutorial

Video

I have been told more then once that I do a very good Dscan class. The reason for this is the simplification of information… if people give you to much info on your first try you leave more confused then you were when you started. Although you can find many Dscan tutorials on youtube, IMO many of them use somewhat advanced terminology and many people can be better served with a "less is better" mentality when first getting started.

So…
I have recorded one of our PVP Training Classes onto Video [this one covers the Dscan]

Instructions In Text:

Quote:
Step 1. Clear your overview (you can see how to do that in the video)
Step 2. Add things into your overview that you want to see in your Directional Scanner

For simplicities sake all you need to start with are Stations, Asteroid Belts, Planets, Warp Bubbles and Stargate (all in the video) Later on, as you progress and when you get better at it, you may want to add other things like POS’s, Moons, Suns and Drones. IMO however, when first starting... less is better.

Step 3. Watch the Video

Things To Pay Attention To:
Quote:

- Make sure that when you open your Dscan “Active Overview Settings” is Checked
- Make sure your Dscan is set to max distance… If you're not sure type in all 99999999999999 where it says [Range KM]
- Lastly, narrowing down to 5 Degrees is hard, most of the time 15 Degrees is fine (and faster)

Dscan Facts

Quote:
360 Degrees = a sphere
180 Degree = a sphere cut in half
90 Degrees = is a cone shape extending forward from your ship like a flashlight
5 Degrees = is like a laser beam

* The smaller the angle the greater the scan range, but around planets distance does not matter much because all of the celestials in orbit around the planet are really close. Most of the time all you need is 15 degrees because the belts tend to be far enough apart to get an accurate reading (and it is also faster).

Some Common Q&A

Q.Can I warp directly to a ship that I see on the Dscan?
A. No, only the Celestial objects in space that you can normally right click on and warp to

Q. I see a ship on 360 around a planet, but I checked all the belts and can't find it.
A. Its probably inside of a POS shield in orbit around a moon (you will see this allot in null sec) and is thus unkillable without a large army.

Q.I have a ship narrowed all the way down to 5 degrees... but it appears to be in between two asteroid belts. WTF Eternum?
A. It's probably in a a safe spot, and if it is you can only get to it by probing it down. Your directional scanner won't be enough.

Great introduction to using the D-Scan. As already said only improvement that could be made is a Voice over as well as the text you already have, also maybe a second video would be useful showing how to use the D-Scan when in hostile space, such as in Null sec or in Wormholes (watching for probes etc).
