Ok first let me say hello and sorry for the BAD grammar and wall of text.

well after long debate about this game and alot of thinking about playing i took the dive :)

first i had a quick go at the missions in the game, nope not my thing.
then i had a look in to the market as every game i play i like to trade, oh my days i instantly love it so i searched contracts for cheap deals to resell on the market Bingo, i notice a (Ahremen's Modified Heavy Nosferatu ) on contract for 300mill in a system very close to my home, i see a market buy order for 350mill in the same system the item is in WICKED.

So off i go and buy this item, haha the buy order is also in same station click sell, WAIT what 42mill ? No i wanted to sell for 350mill, but meh after asking alittle in local channel im told this is a fake buy order and i would also need more than i have to sell it. so i checked again Yes the buy order says i need 2 wow ok.

so after asking i found that i wos scammed 1 day after starting and less than 1 hour after trying market trading.

Great i failed also if you are thinking ok how does a 1 day old player get his hands on this isk (ive already had this question)
yes i got gtc..

my question is
how often do players get scammed like this, at first this made me think Sod this game im off, But sainer heads prevailed
im not at all angry but i aint going to lie i wos a little ashamed i fell for this right away my friend who sent me the game invite has now talked me over what i did wrong, and seems jita system is a hard place to start a trading path for my self.

ok well rant and question over ty.

on a side note i have above item for sale at right price from my research :).

Rule #3 of Eve: If it looks too good to be true, it's a scam.

What you encountered was the margin trading scam, plenty of people fall for it, myself included, but generally only the once. Contracts can be a little dodgy as well, make sure you read them carefully before accepting them.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Well its really your bad that you get scammed. And you are naive to go straight for market with 500 mil. in pocket when you dont even know what item or how many of them you are selling / buying...

And Jita is scamm den so take it as lesson you are not the first and you are not the last. Suck it up and go on because you wont get any refund..

Jita is mostly just faced paced, but it is by no means impossible for a new player to trade there.

The problem is, getting $ signs in the eyes and going "OMG bargain!"

While there are, ofc people who do all their trading via contract buys and market reslles, or vice versa, the usual way is to do the trading on the market, especially when you are trying to figure out everything still.

Margin scams catch many players, both old and new, as do contract scams.

As in RL, if it looks too good to be true, it invariably is

Meh, PLEX are cheap with RL cash, I run into enough people who are a month old, and have lost 1-2b on the market

Makes for some interesting contract purchases thoughPirate

I'll never forget a new guy in jita who had just bought 10 plex to sell but couldn't because he didn't have enough isk for the charges.

Handed them straight over to me in station trade. No security or anything, only my word I'd take 20% and not screw him over. an honest 650 mil I made that day.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Maybe it would be better to move it to the new players forum instead of a part of the forums where he'll get no assistance or atleast the least productive replies

as i did say in my first post, Yes i got gtc Game time code then i exchanged it for some (plex) pilot licence.

also ty for replys i have decided to start at the very bottom of the pile, Markets instead of jumping right in to contracts and now i see market orders are some times fake, I have come to realise items that are in officer type are often the fake orders, also rare or so called rare items.

after sitting and just watching in the jita system i have realized almost all of contracts posted are not real or are in some way a scam (NOT ALL) around id say 90%-99% are fake or scam.
i still lost about 100mill but as i still own the item in question i have a real hope for at-least recouping some of my loss.

also sorry for posting in wrong section My bad, i did make some nice isk from a free item i wos given last night this has given me back almost everything i lost with buying this item..

i have wanted to try these players who SAY they will double my isk BUT lol im new not stupid. why would anyone

Well I certainly hope you learned your lesson...I don't want to sound insulting but it seems like you haven't been around for very long in this world (planet earth not eve).

Here's a hypothetical for ya.

You are in a foreign country for the first time. You speak a little of the language, but are having a much harder time understanding it now that you are standing in a crowded bazaar, strange dialects and unfamiliar customs all around you. You manage to distinguish through the crowd one seller crying "carpets, lovely carpets, buy your carpets here half price off! just 2000 rupees!". You take note, but know nothing about the local economic system, so you have no idea if it's a good deal or not. A few moments later, however, you are pleased to hear another merchant on the other side of the bazaar crying out an offer to buy any and all 'good condition' carpets for 4000 rupees.

Surely this is an excellent chance to double your money, so you find the nearest financial institution and take out a micro-loan (off topic: micro loans are cool!) and spend it all on a carpet from the first merchant. You are now the owner of an extremely-overpriced carpet my friend...the colours aren't even very nice =(

The end.

p.s. on the upside, that isk cost you what? an hour of your time? at least you didn't grind for it

p.p.s. if you had bothered to ask any of the locals in the hypothetical bazaar, most of them would have been able to tell you in english to avoid the carpet-merchants.

p.p.p.s. hindsight.
