Hello,

I have been wondering about using Hookbill for pve (mostly lvl2/COSMOS/lvl3), preferably with Light Missiles. Main goal - change of pace and some entertainment while grinding standings. I have been trying to create working setup, but cannot say I am satisfied with the results so far.

Which of the following fits do you think would be better? I understand, that in the end, they are probably not cost effective (well, more toys than tools). Or in case they both suck, any advices for Hookbill pve fit?

[Caldari Navy Hookbill, PVE LM Buffer]
Domination Ballistic Control System
Caldari Navy Power Diagnostic System

Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction
Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Extron
Domination EM Ward Amplifier
Coreli C-Type 1MN Afterburner

Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile

Use a dessie for these. It's better.

As Sabre said, a destroyer would do what you want most efficiently, for alot cheaper too.

As for your for fits, they're actually pretty bad, a T2 fitted Kestrel has almost identical stats to your first Hookbill (in terms of active tank and dps and damage appplication it's identical, but it's slower and has less buffer), and costs a mere 10mil which is 16x less than your first Hookbill (160mil) and 30x cheaper than your second (300mil), though it is slightly worse in every way to the second fit. However the Kestrel isn't locked into kinetic damage only which is a HUGE plus for mission purposes cause you can always shoot the rats resist hole, making it actually better than your fits.

Here's the Kestrel fit:

Light Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Fury Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Fury Light Missile

This Kestrel is incredibly reliable and I have a soft spot for it because I flew one throughout my newbie career and even did the SoE arc in it and used it until L2 missions before I jumped straight into a BC, allowed me to skip cruisers.

So yeah, TL:DR:
Use Destroyer, if you really want light missiles, use a Kestrel (the Corax would give more dps, but once again is locked into kinetic if you want to take advantage of the bonus). Save that Hookbill for some pvp, it's one of the best pvp frigates around.

280 dps at 19km with rage, 190 dps at 35km with jav. It's lvl2, nothing will spawn above 35km. If they do, burn over there, it's a dessie.

The new Dessies are really slow, and things actually spawn above 35km quite often, having a long range weapon is better in my experience, never ran any actual numbers but it feels that way.

I like the way no one can fit a Hookbill for PvE.

It's doable, but it's just not worth it, it's got a kinetic oriented bonus which makes it bad for PvE, and the Kestrel can pump out similar dps for much cheaper while still having enough tank/speed for low level missions WITH damage selectability which makes it just not worth it to use a Hookbill.

It's potential lies in the PvP versatility that 5 med slots on a frig give.

Well this is the best I came up with.

[Caldari Navy Hookbill, PvE LM]
Ballistic Control System II

1MN Afterburner II
F-90 Positional Sensor Subroutines, Targeting Range Script

Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile
Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile

Small Rocket Fuel Cache Partition I
Small Hydraulic Bay Thrusters I

It costs a modest 22m isk and can snipe from 90km with faction ammo, 190 DPS from 70km with T2. I don't think I'd bother using it though.

Yes, it definitely looks better. Much easier to fit.

Thanks for replies. Yes, I understand that PVE Hookbill is not exactly an 'optimal' solution, I just like the ship and was trying to find a use for it in pve.

Thanks, good idea with range scripts!

Yes, I have also used Kestrel for low level missions in the past and it was fine. I am basically looking for something that could be more 'fun' to fly. But it seems Hookbill isn't that thing in the end. Thanks for advices!

Maybe I should try out some AFs...

For low level missions the Cormorant is pretty nice, it has amazing range and pretty good dps too. AFs are fun to use in L3s, also if you're looking for some fun in AFs I'd recommend daytripping C1-C2 WHs as most AFs can handle the anoms.

You should try a Hawk, you may like it. I hear of people running lvl3 missions in Blarpies, so a Hawk should be just as fun.

Not in lvl1s and 2s.
