Getting into incursions

Hi,

Im wanting to try something new and Ive been hearing good things about incursions. I can fly all caldari ships (T1) up to and including battleships fairly decent, have skills in missiles so either torps, heavies or cruise would be an option. So Im looking for a few pointers:

1. Should I train some different ship to start with or can some of the ships I already fly be useful in incursions?
2. If so which one and do I have to have the fleet version or will the regular kind do?
3. How easy will it be to get into fleets? Is there anything I can do to be more attractive to incursion fleets?
4. How should I fit said ship? Do I have to use faction mods or will t2 do? And rigs t1 or t2? I can use full t2 fitings minus launchers for ships mentioned above.

As for cost of ship + fittings its not gonna be a problem as long as I can be expected to pay it off, lets assume most setups would be within my price range....

In advance thanks

1. Yes, and guns.
2. Bhaalgorn/Vindicator/Paladin/Kronos/Legion/Loki/logis
3. Fit pimp, maximize gank, minimize tank. Easy for good fit. Impossible for your skill set.
4. Faction webs + dmg mods, t2/faction guns, t2 dmg rig, t1 other rigs.

contrary to the previous poster, you will be looking for shield fleets

being skilled to caldari means the best ship to get into a fleet in would be the basilisk. if you cant pilot one then you will only get into mediocre fleets (tengu will occasionally get you into some decent fleets). the exception is if you join HQ/Assault fleets which will welcome well fit long range caldari ships, such as the CNR, and SNI. i have also seen golums, rattlesnakes, and plain scorpions, though those arent as common, as well as a few rohks, nighthawks.

main points:
-there are sites with lots of fittings out there, look for them.
-you need to fit a T2 buffer tank, all resists at least over 75%
-you need to fit a T2 weapon system

-sniper BS need to target out to 150k as well as have the range

honestly, caldari DPS is always second rate in incursions. it is also common. thus you will always be farther down the list.

I really don't want to break out the old argument of Shield Vs Armor... I'm team armor.

Fly what you want to. if you feel a greater ability to fly shields then do so.

I fly armor because I feel safer with armor than with shield tanks. Especially when it comes to Assault and Headquarter sites. There are some ships in those that Neut at 400% efficiency. I've seen Battleships go cap dry in seconds when one or more ships neut them. It's a lot easier putting on a decent cap free omni tank with armor than shield. being that the EANM's don't use cap but invuln fields do. And where this isn't normally an issue. If you're in a HQ site and primary, with no resistances (because of neuting) you die fast.

Yep, Basilisk will get you into more fleets than a Caldari BS. You could keep a Raven around for when people are putting together Assault or HQ fleets. They might take you in if they've already got all the logis they need. Then there is the Nightmare which is a shield tanker and requires Amarr and Caldari BS. So after you're trained up for the Basilisk I guess you could train up Amarr BS and lasers, and be able to fill the "shiny" DPS or Sniper role as well.
