What's a good name for a fire/ice mage class?

I'm developing a roleplaying game which has multiple classes, much like World of Warcraft or other sorts. I have a specific class which is a mage that can drain heat from things to freeze/cool them and then use this heat to burn/ignite other things. I've got great names for all the rest of my classes but this one has been baffling me. Anyone have any ideas? I'd like to have a fairly unique name, and I don't want to use words incorrectly. For instance, firemancer is out of the question because mancy is divination, not command.

If you're curious, here is what I have so far:

Warrior (tanky, heavy armor/melee)
- Crusader (magical warrior)
- Brute (very tanky)
- Challenger (pvp-centric)
- Vigilante (DPS/control)

Rogue (medium armor/melee or ranged)
- Fencer (avoidance tank)
- Assailant (weapon specialist/DPS)
- Ranger (stealth/pets/non-spell healing)
- Adventurer (jack of all trades/DPS)

Shaman (light armor shapeshifter)
- Bear Spirit (high HP tank)
- Spider Spirit (control/slow damage)
- Tree Spirit (tough/slow healing)
- Owl Spirit (spell damage)

Mystic (spell armor, magic)
- Hierophant (healer)

- TEMPER (hot/cold mage/DPS)
- Firebrand (magic/melee mix)
- Witch (spell tank/ranged control)

Feel free to suggest names for any of the others, too. But please only suggest names which use words and titles correctly. ie. don't suggest that Ranger should be a ranged class, as that is not why real-life rangers are called rangers. Any input helps!!

I have selected Temper, as I like that one! But it is still open. If you think you have a better name than Temper, I'm all ears. But please stop suggesting anything with -mancer in the name! I have already mentioned that I will not use -mancer in its name.

Houm... why do you have a "Firebrand" mage and then a class that deals heat/cold damage?

As for the name, I would use something like "Hailbringer", as hail can both be cold or fiery if you're an Egyptian pharaoh and God holds a grudge against you.

Also, if the guy just creates heat and cold around, could be called a "Thermofactor"... but it sounds like a home appliance.

The Firebrand deals a mix of fire magic damage and physical damage with each weapon strike. It's very unique to the fire/cold mage which uses purely elemental ranged attacks. I think it also goes along with the name firebrand which is usually used to refer to a person or animal which is untamed and ferocious, and the firebrand will make up for light armor by being particularly swift and vicious in melee range. Other mystics will more sluggish because they all have range.

I don't like Elementalist or other elemental terms because it implies that the class can use other elements. I have other purposes for other elements, I want this one to only use these two (in primary).

Temper, Temperies

Mages that deal in temperature. Unskilled younglings may train in lighting candles and reducing heat in enclosed rooms. Advanced application might be raining fire down on an enemy, or freezing them where they stand. Archmages would argue over perpetual motion machines through magic. This class of mage would be especially sought after in mining and engineering professions.

personally i would change firebrand to spellsword since it's magical melee. and the other one to frostflame or something.

I like this one a lot! But do you know where I can look up information about these? When I look up temper in Google, I am bombarded with other definitions and usages that don't even relate to magic.

Dude, they aren't real. I thought the whole point of this exercise was to come up with a name.

If there are already fire/ice mages walking around with wikipedia articles on google, just use whatever everyone calls them.

Why not just call that a plain and simple Sorcerer/ess, as in Diablo 2? And throw in some lightning spells for good measure? Smile

Thermomancer
If you google it you will come across some RP blogs. One of them includes something with frost and fire.

Frostfire lord / frostfire dancer
Or something like that. The names will be exactly what the class is.

You can also work with something ying/yang -ish and work with a chineese theme for the class. When I think of the frost and fire I sort of think of balance between the two. I just can't come up with an exact name.

Mancy is divination - coercing secrets from something, drawing wisdom and knowledge from it. A thermomancer would be one who studies fire and learns about how things burn??
