Win8 isn't anywhere near as bad as some of you are making it out to be.

ITT: A bunch of whiny people who can't adapt to changes that a three year old has mastered. It's seriously embarrassing.

I haven't had this difficulty with Eve on Win 8. If trying Windowed mode doesn't work like some have suggested, I'd look into drivers provided by your computer's manufacturer. It sounds like a video driver issue.

I'd suggest its your garbage gaming rig, I sell W8 gaming rigs and preinstall EVE with a buddy reference code for a shot at free PLEX =P

But EVE and Windows 8 fit together like fleshy meat rods and soft steamy receptacles... Hotdogs and their related buns of course.

Now with 100% less Troll.

I'm amazed how many people here can't use Windows 8...

You'd think being eve players you'd be *used* to a **** poor UI. Anyways, once you get past that the core OS itself is mostly very good, with a few quirks which still need resolution. And this is coming from a guy who ******* *hates* upgrading.

Is it just me, or doesn't this remind you of what was said by winxp users when win vista came out?

i.e. vista user: "my games don't work in vista..."
winxp user: "vista is crap, stick with xp..."

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

Same as a lot of people, I've not had any trouble with win8 and Eve. I play in windowed mode and swap between metro ui and back without black screens or other problems. It could be another program you have installed messing with it. Have you tried turning off antivirus?

It has nothing to do with mastering it — it has to do with it being an objectively inferior UI that breaks so many design principles that it borders on the silly.

Disable your mumble overlay, something about the way it uses directx to inject the overlay causes eve to crash. There's supposed to be workaround but I haven't been able to get that working.

It is optimized for touchscreens. That change alone weakens it as a whole.

Design principles change. The only reason people whine is because it doesn't have a Start button anymore (though it has a big fat popup button in the same place), and that was a crappy design paradigm. When Microsoft added the little search box to the Start menu, the entire thing was shown to be the terrible design that it actually is. If you don't just press your Windows key on your keyboard and type the first few letters of what you want to run, then you're using Windows wrong. Clicking through the Start menu to find what you want is slow, tedious, and completely unnecessary. It was made even more unnecessary because you can pin your most used applications to your taskbar so you don't even need to go looking for them anywhere.

Incidentally, the exact same feature still exists in Windows 8. Press your keyboard's Windows key and start typing what you want to find.

You're giving up a host of performance enhancements and other great improvements because you can't adapt to change, plain and simple. The stuff in apps store isn't for you. That is for tablet users. However, the only change you'll experience in actually using Windows 8 is the lack of a Start menu. If you're younger than three years old and have issues adapting, then you have my condolences. If you're older than three, then you only get derisive scorn.

To put this in meme form: If you still rely on navigating the Start menu to find programs in 2013, you're bad and you should feel bad.

People said stuff like that about XP. And Windows 7.

The reason Vista's launch was weak was because it was initially unstable. That changed quickly, it became straight superior to XP, especially if you wanted to use several GB of RAM.

The reason 8's launch is weak is because it is optimized for touchscreens and its UI as a whole is severely weakened as a result. That is not something you can just fix. It'll be great for smartphones and tablets, but it cannot compete with older OSes on a PC or laptop.

The Windows 8 ui has it's quirks, but once you learn how to use it it's just fine, in some ways it is better than 7, in others... not so much. I wager the main reason there is so much hate is that people dislike change, and many hate having to learn new things, especially as they get older. Windows 8 on my desktop, I run almost exclusively in desktop mode, it's not like it's hard to get to, I also have a surface pro, and once I got used to the gestures and crap, unless I am running my primary desktop apps, ie visual studio, the touch interface has grown on me and even though I have a mouse for it I often find myself touching the screen instead.

TL;DR
Most windows 8 hate is from stubborn people, it's not all bad and in many ways it is better than windows 7.

Back on topic for the user, I wager it is your rig, if your machine is decent specs check your drivers are properly installed and updated, else go to the tech forums. Also, if you upgraded to windows 8 in place, I recommend you back everything up and do a clean install, I had issues myself when I initially tried to upgrade in place.

as the poster above stated about shutting down mumble or TS overlay... I had those problems as well, however I'm not sure if you are using that or not... No that is not an windows 8 issue, because I could never use TS overlay and only after a few tweaks have I been able to use mumble overlay in any game including Eve even on windows 7

Yes, when I tried it without running mumble it appears to work fine. This is very annoying as this is the main chat for my alliance and corp. Which are required to be logged into whenever we are logged into the game. It there a way to fix this?

OK figured it out, went into my settings and shut off the overlay. Appears to be working fine now, thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Ok, so I installed and reinstalled and did stand alone.... I cannot get this game to start. I click the Icon and it does the thinking swirly thing for a second and then nothing. I don't get a splash screen, anything it just sits on the desk top. Im about to throw this laptop out the window! But seriously, I need some help and telling me to switch OS's isn't going to work... so please is there an intelligent fix for this without troll sauce?
