FB likes, EVE and the Decade Celebrations

I'm a long time eve player and while I'm delighted with the 10 year celebration of Eve, and love CCP, I absolutely detest FB in all its forms and iterations. I cannot understand why CCP would shoehorn us into Zuckerberg's dumbmemland with the Like function. Eve has always been the dark horse of MMO and defied the odds, why makes us join a mainstream social network to celebrate EVE? The exclusivity of FB in relation with our decade celebration riles me even more. "LIKE US, or we won't give you shinies" is typical of the puerile network marketing strategies that clueless companies use.

The point I want to make is make us use **** social networks as part of your marketing shinies (it is a disservice to long time players) and force us to do it in order to get the gifts. If there are further implementations of this in the pipeline and you want to further herd us into the social sphere, it should not just be FB and the stupid Likes button

Thanks, and here's to another ten years of being the underdog that could.

I agree wholeheartedly. Emphaticaly. Enthusiasticaly. Anyways, this is dumb. Ccp needs to stop trolling for likes. Im typing this outside boston pizza while drunk so my opinion matters more.

After the patch we're giving the market some gentle supply restriction, like tying one wrist to the bedpost loosely with soft silk rope. Just enough to make things a bit more exciting for the market, not enough to make a safeword necessary.  -Fozzie

Don't participate. That's the only solution and that what I do. The gifts are pretty underwhelming and not very important imho. The only worthy gift is the Gnosis and we will get it no matter what.

Things suchs as FB and twitter made the whole Internet worse. I miss the good old days of IRC and ICQ. The new generation does not realize this but there is no anonymity anymore.

You don't have to actually 'like' the page to get the reward. You just have to hope other people do.

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

I'm not into FB at all and it seems most of the people I know who've been heavily into it in the past are pretty much sick of it now. They use Twitter.

Oh dear, I must have missed the part where they put a gun to your whiny head and forced you to join Facebook.

Oh wait, that's because they didn't. Nor do you need to do ANYTHING in order to get the rewards the rest of us clicked, liked, tweeted and shared for us all to enjoy. So you know, you're welcome.

I don't like Facebook at all but lots of people do. CCP just wants to spread the word of EVE around which is fine by me.

It's a shame I can't contribute because I don't have a Facebook, though.

The problem is that the typical FB addict has the attention span of a goldfish and is pretty much the antithesis of the typical EVE player. CCP has to know this, but doggedly keeps inflicting Facebook on its notoriously anti-social-media playerbase in the hope that selling a few new EVE accounts is worth pissing off your entire community with a shameless marketing scheme.

Indeed. And while I do actually have a FB account, I very rarely log onto it, I have all third party apps turned off, all invites are set to auto-decline and I'm been seriously thinking about deleting the whole damned thing as most of my associates are very new to the internet and keep reposting 10 year old memes like they're a new thing.

Iroanically, I used the like button on a few posts in this thread.

I despise facebook and will never use it, however, as far as i understood, it doesn't matter if you personally give likes, but likes and the resulting gifts are shared among all Eve players.

As CCP doesn't have any information linking facebook accounts to eve acounts, this is the only logical assumption.

I would reply but I'm on some website made for nosy women and manbabies spamming a button to get useless flashy things that make me giggle like a assburger eating a hotdog.

I also detest myspace...errr I mean twitbook.

Whiny? you must be one of these FB-tards that ply the network every day taking pictures of your fat self. Learn to read what is being said, but I guess for you that is a challenge because you spend too much time looking at yourself on FB

I don't have Facebook and the last time I saw anything on Facebook with EVE content without an account, there was not much interaction either apart from the usual whine and troll.

I do follow EVEFLEET on twitter and that's a much faster way of getting notified EVE stuff. I'm surprised that Twitter was not made the center.

The Like button makes no sense to me, "Kid dies, gets shot by his brother" 5,000 Likes? 5000 FB people liked the kid to die? WTF. Anyway, I do hope CCP doesn't make this permanent and become a central part of their marketing campaign.

Logic is strong with OP and like every single of his responses.
Please, let CCP make business decisions that don't affect you in the slightest. Also, plese let us decide if we use FB or its analogues and, more importantly, how we do it. For example, you can't imagine how easier it became to organize events with 20+ people when networks like that appeared and you can reach everyone in 5 minutes.
Finally, speaking of your anonymity concerns, you don't even need to use your real name and/or whatever RL info, so I don't see your problem.

OT: I have FB account I use exclusively in cases like this, to get freebies and the like. Significantly less work than I do in Eve grinding another cruiser and the like anyways.

They want more players. More players equals more cash. They're getting with the modern times!

So, deal with it!

Post with your main, like a BOSS!

And no, i don't live in highsec.  As if that would make your opinion any less wrong.
