Hi all. I haven't played in a long time, but I've came back and decided to try exploration. I've googled about before posting here, and attempted to research a bit, and I know the methodology for exploring and roughly the skills I want. Any of the astro skills + hacking, I believe, to start.

Now, my question is, is this correct? If so, what order should I level the skills? Whats the minimum I need for high sec exploration? I have a decent miner from when I played before, and a decent combat ship/skills, so those skills are not an issue for me. I'm sitting on a mismatch 5M SP of mining, missile, and various other skills.

After I do some high sec exploration, whats the natural progression? What skill level should I start looking for harder exploration?

I only really did solo play before, aside from a bit of group mining, so my knowledge of group play is pretty much zero.

I intend to play with my girlfriend, who is new to EVE. Is it possible to group/do missions together? Is 2 man exploring a viable thing? Whats a good activity in eve that works well 2 man style? Is there a way to set waypoints to each other?

If you don't mind, I will be following your thread.

I too am just coming back. From 2006 to 2008, I built up ratted and PvPed. Came back for 3 months twice and PvPed with friends that no longer play. I too am interested in the exploration side of things, especially wormholes.

You two should meet and learn the ins and outs of exploration together. And write a blog. I'd follow it. I know next to nothing about exploration though, so I'm no use here

Before I resubbed I played through a 14 trial doing all of the contact contracts to get an idea of what to do.

Ok, bit of an update. I did the exploration tutorial missions, went to a .9... and no matter what I do, I can't get above 30-40%. I would've though high sec wouldn't need much. Using the + formation. Do I just need more skills?

Yes I would recommend getting astrometric skills to 3 across the board and try a t1 version of your racial scanning frig should give a 5 or 10% bonus to scan strength per lv there are also rigs you can put on to help, forget what they are off the top of my head. Sorry would be more descriptive but hard to type on my iPad.

P.S. it's the heron for caldari.

Yeah I'm in the Heron with CF4, Astro 2 and a scanner. Having no luck. I'll let it skill over a day or two and bugger about on my retriever and mine and stock isk. If anyone can think of a reason other than lack of skills, please post ;).

Do you have the others astro pinpointing, range finding, and the other not sure off my head. They help more then the basic skill, I hear that'll change after odyssey comes out have to retread the notes. But if you don't have those skills you should see a difference. If your skills are decent then it's one of two other problems 1 lack of experience of 2 extremely difficult signatures, prolly the first.

It could have been really hard sigs. I was playing late at night so maybe people had cleared out the easy ones. I'll try after the reset :).

Well, I had some progress. I found a wormhole, had an explore, found a couple of ladar sites I couldn't mine, and while I was afk for a biobreak someone blew me up. Fun times, but at least I actually found something. Long live my Heron :(.
