Does anyone else feel disappointed by fanfest?

There was a whole lot more Dust stuff than I would have wanted, but its the new product and a lot of it was pretty interesting.

One thing I really missed was round table coverage, I've been looking around but haven't been able to find much. I always liked the presentations and the data given... the logs that actually show something! Economics data, industry data, exploding ship numbers, all good information but what little showed up was spread out over several presentations.

Still watched a good 10 hours worth of it. Blink

No, there are a lot of people thinking the same: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=229662

Such remarks really may trick one into thinking that what was shown on fanfest is not the same than what was shown on stream, because latter was nothing to tell about: it was mostly a recap of already announced changes and suggestion to "think about space colonization, stargate construction, etc", no solid plans, no vision, just an invitation to dream... and we all know how far expectations usually end up from reality in EVE. And Odyssey is a fresh example of expansion marketed as themed about exploration which will "make us all want to undock and explore stuff" but ended up as expansion around Deus Ex-like hacking minigame.

It's all boils down to people asking for more content and people saying EVE is not theme park so you don't need new content. Like few people said in the thread linked above, EVE keynote gave impression that CCP have no clear idea what they want to do with EVE next. To me it looked like instead of making game systems deeper, they try to make game broader once again - exact same approach one can expect from theme park game, and if this future planned space colonization theme will be implemented at same quality level as planetary interactions or incursions were it won't bring much success.

In my opinion they need to invert their development priorities: instead of adding new content on grand scale and doing minor iterations on low level they need to iterate on existing game systems while adding new content within them. As an example: iteration on the crimewatch as existing system was a success but it didn't brought anything really new to lowsec and if Retribution also had something new for that sector of space net result of expansion would be even better.

I'm a new player so I don't have any past Fanfest experience to compare it too.

I can completely understand how experienced players would see it differently then I do. I've watched most of the videos and was generally impressed. Yes a lot of Dust stuff, which makes sense since its being launched. I haven't paid any attention to DUST as I have little interest in playing FPS's and don't have a console. I knew it was a new game and connected to EVE somehow and that's about it.

I understand the vision for it more now and was most interested in the ideas and plans to connect it to EVE. I think the whole thing is pretty cool and I'm looking forward to seeing how it pans out. It made me want to get a PS3 just to try it out. I won't though. I just don't have the time to get sucked in by another game.

I thought Seagulls presentation was great and if they do even a few of the things talked about I'll be happy. For me personally the expansion coming up seems great and it was good to get more details. My only problem now is waiting for it.

I wasn't disappointed at all and am even contemplating planning to attend next year as it looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

My guess is dust will not be a big success, and eve players with self interests will play dust in conjunction with their eve accounts. Sure it might be all shiny at first then like a lot of other spin-offs it will smolder out.

dust =/= EVE

Releasing "features" to our game that we are 100% completely and permanently locked out of not only isn't exciting, but telling us we're supposed to be excited about it is insulting.

"welcome to EVE's 10th year, where we're pretty much done working on EVE. Where we've decided we're okay with some things being fundamentally broken."

I felt that something was missing for EVE. At least to me, it feels like CCP isn't telling us something and that we're going to have to discover it for ourselves once the expansion launches. Perhaps more "hidden" sites that need probes to scan down.

CCP RedDawn: Ugly people are just playing life on HARD mode. Personally, I'm playing on an INFERNO difficulty.

CCP Goliath: I often believe that the best way to get something done is to shout at the person trying to help you. http://goo.gl/PKGDP

I mean Dust 514 seems to be taking major leaps forward with the new graphics, game modes, weapons, links to EVE etc.

Whereas the upcoming Odyssey expansions seems to consist of tweaks to database tables (mining changes), a new way to see existing content (discovery scanner) and a few ship re-skins and modifications. No mention at all of modular POS's, ring mining, and direct X 11 tessellation.

Does anyone else feel short-changed by this?

I am guessing that the OP never visited Fanfest. Because you can find a developer and ask them the questions you want to ask, rather than hoping they come up on the stream.

That's what Fanfest is for me anyway, you guys the players able to sit down and talk to us directly.
I can't wait until next year! Cool

not everyone can attend MOST people rely on the stream for info, so if it's not in the stream or a DEV blog, it never happened for the majority of us.

as i play dust, super happy from the fanfest. but as an eve player, my reaction was "this feels like nothing more then a bloody patch"

What this upcoming patch brings us.

Removing Ice from High to put more money in null fleets pockets who can support big mining ops in Low

T1 battleship reworks that are not very impressive or well thought out.

Adding tags to low to gain sec status to further support Null alliances who can man huge operations to secure them.

Projectile weapons nerf by reducing effectiveness of TEs

Ya this patch sound like a winner for sure....

yes, was expecting a lot more from the 10-th anniversary expansion. odyssey would be ok for a slow year, but not for this

where are the game changers like 0.0 sov rework or delayed local? where are the complete ui overhaul and 'system-wide' asteroid belts? all parts of some previous '5-year plans' now abandoned and forgotten... as any new plan will be eventually

10-th anniversary my arse...

Hello Goliath, my 1st response to a ccp dev,

one thing i would suggest over the course of DUST is working better with SCEA community managers to organize better communication to the PS3 players and utilizing more the PS Home feature for your broadcast since Sony does it awesomely well during E3 and such.. that way once i turn on my PS3 i dont have to just look at "whats new" and can more easily drop into PSN Home to socialize with the PS3 community.. of course this was your 1st try at the broadcast and such so i cant blame you there.. but make sure you guys work with Sony better on that cause the lag was horrible compared to how they can replay their presentations easily in PSN home.

i also feel abit sad the event is over as well.. i dont plan on visiting iceland (due to hekla fears) but i did enjoy getting the most of the broadcast and feel of what your company is attempting to do for us new players and am very happy to say the least what DUST has to offer the PS3 community and perhaps bring them more interest in joining Eve Online.

Good luck to you and Happy 10th anniversary.. congrats!

What I feel most disappointed about ( Again ) is the lack of 'dress up' .. When fanfest was held at the laugerdalshallur the elevators wwas måde like in spacestations, all the walls was covered in banners from the race that themed the paticular year, securiry guts wore concord suits and so on. Why they don't dø all this at harpa i'll never understand but i'm saddened by it.

Them top much dust514 for my taste but whatever. Otherwise an ok fanfest

Not really disappointing since I already figured it would be mostly Dust crap.

Yeah, **** the remaining tens of thousands of the player base who aren't able to attend, right?!

I'm sure he'd be happy to schedule a sit down with you anytime, just as soon as you send him the air fare for the ticket. Blink Until that time if you want a one on one you know where and when to go.

Well, 3 out of 4 hilariously wrong ain't bad, and the last point on the list is highly debatable.

Well done.

DUST is EVE, make no mistake. Dust content is EVE content. one universe one war and all that. and to be honest, it looks like a total overhaul of exploration, or did you miss the hacking mini game and the site with NO RATS and one big can?. I dont PVP much out of null-sec, and i own too many expensive ships to fly T1 cruisers too often, so this is the first expansion with real content since whenever it was they added incursions.

I was pleased with the stream. Small, well-made changes are better than huge redesigns that the community won't want or that are poorly made. 10 year code that the devs didn't work on themselves can be hard to fix. Plus the devs showed their experience. You learn not to promise anything, or give concrete details about proposed changes or ideas. Otherwise you will have them thrown in your face time and time again if that change doesn't work out or ever get finished.

Am disappointed that the orchestra was only on for an hour, if that counts.
