You know...

You don't even need new skins for some of the ships. Just let people use the skins which are ALREADY in the game.

Take the Dominix:

5 skins that I know of:

Standard Domi - Bland, utilitarian, ugly.
Navy Domi - For when you need to hide in the bushes (Lol)
Roden Shipyards Domi - Very sleek - I'm all for it, burgundy on metal is hot.
Federation Customs Domi - Didn't really catch my eye but I believe its there somewhere. Kinda muted teal colours iirc.
Escort Domi (seen in Gallente Epic Arc) - Nice and shiny yellow! Definitely different, not sure if it's an improvement though.

Don't change a thing - just let pilots access what you already have and its going to be WIN!

(NB: Anyone know of any Domi skins I've missed out on?)

Not sure if it's just different screen settings or an entirely different skin, but I recall seeing and orange and light green Domi in a mission against mercs. Something about getting the leaders head in a jar...

But yes, giving us access to those skins would be pretty sweet. I'd shy away from the pirate faction skins, though. So many Bhaalghorns...

Can you hear them? They are calling to us. It is beautiful. http://thegreattichim.wordpress.com/

Actually a similar retexturing getting dif of that thin connection but keeping the old general shape would be better.

I agree.

The new one does not look bad It is just as someone mentioned too childish bug like.

There are a lot of people calling for a raven redesign.
DO NOT MAKE RAVEN SYMMETRICAL. That is not the caldari way.

Dominix would look amazing if you just made it a little more sleek. I have seen lots of concept art that keeps the dominix style but slims it down and makes it look more like a drone carrier.

Fix the new Sacrilege. It has the Viziam color scheme, when it should have the Khanid colors.

Oh you mean real redesigns... um....

Cruicifier/Sentinal : they aren't Amarr designed ships (visually), fix that

Why so much hate on the poor Moa? Sad

I disliked the ship intensely for years, but in the last couple of them it has grown on me. I quite like the overweight little metal ostrich with the overstuffed suitcase now. It is one of the ships that are uniquely EVE Online's. Quite a few ships could use a facelift, Moa likely among them. But I'd mourn that lumpen shape for a long time.

Anyways, carry on.

Well what does it say that it takes YEARS to grow on you?

Right, that you found its look hideously disgusting for years and years!
A ship that's kind of likable to look at from the beginning, is that really too much to ask for? :p

Meh. This is clearly too subjective to get a ton of consensus. But were it up to me, these could all use work:

  • Raven
  • Imicus
  • Moa
  • Drake
  • Apocalypse
  • Stabber
  • Celestis
  • Osprey
  • Ashimmu

But that's just me. There was a time I wouldn't hesitate to put the Dominix on that list but it's grown on me enough to forgive it. The Apocalypse is my personal least favorite hull in the game but I know it has a serious fan base.

Don't you dare touch my stabber.

You sir, need prescription spectacles. I, for one, find the new scorpion sexy and I think most folks (me really) find it to be the honey badger of the caldari lineup. I'm not sure there is an ugly amarr ship. I agree that raven and domi + some other caldari ships could use a redesign. Do not touch the brutix unless you are willing to give it a mustache.

Forgive me if I've missed a dev. post or similar, but shouldn't CCP consider redesigning some of the ships that most players consider butt ugly? They have had good response on their deviantart competitions (let the audience bring on the new design), and they already have redesigned the Maller. I'm first and foremost thinking of ships like the Moa/Eagle/Onyx.

While I'm all for some redesign or overhauls the devs really shouldn't go overboard with completely new designs as you suggest.
Also who decides what's ugly and what's not? What's ugly for some is a beauty for others. Looking at your example, I hate the Moa, I think the Eagle looks OKish and the Onyx looks cool somehow. That's just my opinion on a single hull with just 3 different texture sets. You get the point?

Basically, what this guy and a few others have said.

Ship design just like any other form of art is highly subjective. Sure, more people will like one type of thing than another, but that's just because there's always a current trend in aesthetics - some follow it, others avoid it, and a minority just think the same thing based on nothing but their own view.

We all thought we looked cool in the 90's, but now we look back and cringe. Do we look different? Are our eyes different? No on both counts, but our opinions are. You get the idea.

Anyway, my opinion is that the only thing CCP need to do to avoid failing is to keep the three races consistent in terms of ship look-and-feel. I personally think they got this wrong with the new Maller, which sticks out like a sore thumb in the current Amarrian lineup; I'm hoping this is rectified to bring back consistency during the whole T3 project.

Might as well throw in my view on ships that are ugly, as this seems to be what most are debating. The Celestis, which has had a few mentions, and the Exequror hull which has had only one that I can find (this surprises me, because it is a truly bizarre shape and made even worse with the red paintjobified Oneiros.. blargh).

This one time, I like, totally did some stuff.

Not sure if the Moa will ever be regarded as pretty though.

And yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder - but some beauty is in a lot more beholders eyes than others! P
If 99% of the people think something is ugly, we may safely consider if as having room for aesthetical improvement.

Someone should do a rating thing like they did for the avatars.

Ugly or not I think a lot of ships are due for a redesign; nothing drastic just a little update to keep things fresh.

Please start with Caldari ships.

You decide what you think is ugly, I decide what I think is ugly. I don't see where you are headed with this? Have you bothered to read the thread at all?

In conjunction with my answer above: No, I don't get the point (at least not when this thread is the basis for this argument).

i think a single change or few changes here or there really just amounts to different peoples vanity projects. frankly, i think all ships in eve need new designs. they're almost universally ugly, and frankly stale.

while everyone has a ship or ships they like, i don't know anyone that doesn't think the majority of ships in eve are ugly.

i think they should release an entirely new skin pack. players could then choose between original skins (the ugly skinpack), or the new skins (the badass skinpack). then i could look at sleek cool spaceships :)

i particularly liked homeworld's/homeworld 2's style.

this solution servers the purpose. if you generally like eve ships, then the ugly pack is for you (and you win some sort of condolensce award for... liking painfully ugly ships). if you generally dislike eve ships, then the badass pack is for you.
