Would you prefer a holiday park like PS3 Home, which is utter garbage? Potter-themed spacebars?

Make no mistake, I'm one of those people that would go kill a Titan in a Noobship, just to have WiS. But I'd like something useful to do in it, other than showing off NeX clothes (and where the heck are long overcoats? Lol). Apparently, CCP understands they can't deliver something useful in one iteration, and after the MT, Greed and Walking-in-a-closet fiasco of Incarna they seem to be a bit more careful at promising things right here and right now, knowing that players will always find something to ***** about.

Then again, that all has been discussed ten times over in the thread I linked, and, as it stands now, without more recent info from the devs we can only speculate, which is hardly a useful passtime. Still, never give up hope. Blink

Eve is about spaceships first, walking around is just fluff and isn't really needed. CCP spent ~3 years developing Incarna and we and them paid the price in the end. It shouldn't be much of a surprise that Incarna is placed on the far back burner for the time being.

FYP Cool

With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing them start coming back around with the WiS stuff, at least a little bit. Unlock the door, and have a corp "office" room for now, then slowly add new rooms (1 per expansion?) til they have enough momentum to do a more WiS-focused release.

Now, by no means should they ever not be doing stuff for FiS -- the "big" WiS release should have an equally big FiS fix/addition list too (e.g. "OK, here are your new POS/outpost/corp management interface ... oh yeah, and all the WiS content that's still missing")

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

In a space game about space ships, who would have thought that the main focus should be on that.

No, it's not dead. CCP needs to find compelling gameplay for it first, then throw resources at it.

The bittervets all got together, kidnapped WiS while it was on the way to the drycleaner to pick up its suits, put it in cement shoes, and dropped it into the Hudson River....

Ok, let me tell you a secret. Eve is a spaceships game. It's about flying spaceships.

WIS was doomed to failure from the start, and the longer they take to actually work out what needs to be down with it the better. If they do allocate dev time to it, they need to not allow the WIS content to get in the way of the actual spaceship content that EVERYONE came to the game for. You didn't come for WIS (unless you thought this was Star Trek Online), you came for the spaceships content.

Most likely it's dead, yes. The summer of rage broke CCP's collective spine and now they're so terrified of even mentioning WiS that I just don't see it happening for at least half a decade or more. Now, we the players who support WiS, could throw a temper tantrum just like the spaceship kiddies did two summers ago, and try to force CCP in a new direction. But frankly I don't think we're that childish.

Which is tragic. Because avatar gameplay is the future of EVE. Look at the last two years - it was 100% FiS. Did the game grow? Not much. If EVE continues with this 100% FiS, it'll just continue to stagnate, with minimal growth. And all this after they spent SOOOO much time and effort and manpower to create the engine and the character creator and the NEX store and all that stuff. To abandon it now, just one or two steps short of meaningful avatar gameplay, in light of all that work that was done on it, is simply tragic. No other word for it.

But I admit I could be looking at it the wrong way. What I mean is, in a year or two games like Star Citizen, Elite, etc., will start to come out. Games that will do "ships in space fighting" part a lot better than EVE. I'm talking good physics engine, combat based on player skill rather than character skill, difficult/impossible to multi-box, no Pay2Win, with strong avatar support to boot (avatars dynamically showing wear and tear of combat, including scars, missing limbs, etc.) Once that happens, and EVE subs start to go down, CCP might have to wake up and finally start to react. I really feel the last 10 years with near-zero competition really allowed them to adopt this relaxed "we do what we feel like" attitude. Once it becomes obvious that they have to adapt or perish, things might improve.

Until then, all we can do is sit and wait. Maybe take a break from the game for a bit. There's nothing in Odyssey that interests me, so I'm planning to take a vacation until the winter expansion at least.

Actually, a lot of people came because of the promise of WiS, back when CCP was releasing videos of avatar gameplay with the old engine, before they decided to build Carbon. I personally know several people who didn't give a flying hoo-ha about spaceships, but who would have loved it if the game turned into a full-fledges sci-fi sim. As CCP said repeatedly was their long-term goal from day one.

And there's a ton of people playing EVE right now who don't give a hoot about spaceships. They play to trade, build, etc. If you could trade between regions without traveling, they probably wouldn't even click the undock button in years.

Folks REALLY need to stop paining all EVE players with the same tarred brush.
