Whereas the upcoming Odyssey expansions seems to consist of tweaks to database tables (mining changes), a new way to see existing content (discovery scanner) and a few ship re-skins and modifications. No mention at all of modular POS's, ring mining, and direct X 11 tessellation.

Does anyone else feel short-changed by this?

Seems to be pretty much just you. Maybe you missed Seagull's keynote presentation full of awesome?

I am guessing that the OP never visited Fanfest. Because you can find a developer and ask them the questions you want to ask, rather than hoping they come up on the stream.

That's what Fanfest is for me anyway, you guys the players able to sit down and talk to us directly.
I can't wait until next year! Cool

Yeah the whole new expansions feels more like tweaks that would go into a 1.1 version rather than a 10th year celebration expansion.

I do like there are some dedicated devs rebalancing stuff, don't get me wrong, still it seems missing some part.

If it's an exploration expansion, wouldn't there be interesting to get more of things to explore? The new scanner looks nice but if there are very few things to actual explor it falls short.

It's a scifi game in space so you can make lots of new stuff explorable.

Yeah i do. Considering it was EVEs 10 year anniversary, i was disappointing that it focused on Dust so much. I'm glad i didn't attend.

I was expecting a nice surprise regarding a future expansion but the best thing about is was some pie in the sky bs about player build stargates and a vaporware oculus rift project.

Same thoughts here. Plus DUST. Regardless if you play it or use the mercenaries is now directly tied to EVE. It's success means more success for EVE. So of course they are going to push it more this year. All players of both games have a vested interest in it being as successful as possible. Because one day the two will be so interdependent that they will be just parts of the same game.

I've seen a few fanfests now. And its not unusual for CCP to do a presentation full of Awesome(TM) and coming Soon(TM) ....

Stream Schedule: Fanfest Stream

Program Schedule: Fanfest Schedule

Yes, maybe they showed dust more on the stream than some liked, but, the first day was 50/50 (Remember, Dust players had the stream too), Day 2: There were 2 dust presentations only presentations, Day 3: None.

For me, (and, I dont play Dust at all,or like FPS games), the Dust presentations were interesting to see where they are going with it, and how it will end up integrating into Eve.

Personally, I would have liked more Seagull presentations of awesome, more industry and more economic stuff....I guess some would have liked to see more of the PvP tournament *shrugs*

Overall I thought the stream was really good, apart from it made me annoyed I was not at Fanfest ^^

A lot of the changes do seem more cosmetic and pretty but not really adding new content as such.
Although that being said there wasn't an awful lot of details .. rather a bunch of talk about past and future.... so i would say it was more of an ideas and feedback fest to gauge reaction on future prototypes.

'Tech3 ships need to be put down, like a rabid dog drooling everywhere in the house, they are out of line' CCP Ytterbium Nerf missile range into place where is the TD missile change?  ..projectiles should use capacitor. ABC's should be T2 HABC and nerf web strength its still too high

Fanfest was more Dust oriented than i would have liked but.. What do you expect? Its launch year for that puppy.

Also EVR made up for it ^^

If i was to complain about anything it would be the overly long all over the place "ccp presents" :P

Well I don't:
1. Asteroid mine
2. Ice Mine
3. Live in 0.0
4. Live in Wormholes
5. Do exploration.
6. Play dust (Although I would if on PC, **** you ps3 piece of crap)

So I suppose a little :)

Not sure if OP is referring to Fanfest as an event or Odyssey as expansion.

Can't talk about fan fest as I wasn't there (heard that it was great tho), however I do find Odyssey somewhat disappointing, especially in exploration part. Perhaps my expectations were set too high since some of the devs used Apocrypha and Odyssey in same sentences before the actual announcement of features that would be introduced, dunno. I mean, removing combat from explo sites, fixing probing interface... its all fine and dandy but its not really new in any significant way, just UI revamps and fixes. The only novelty is that 'facebook game' thingie, but since no details of its mechanics have been revealed, I still don't have an opinion on whether that's good or bad new content.

Developers in general: Like to create something new to a specified design.

Developers do not in general: like constantly tweaking an fixing old projects.

Dust is new, dust is more interesting for a dev. Once they get a year under their belt and a happy player base (its console people it wont take long) they can all come back and work on eve expansions!

If eve players have anything its Patience, so chill this is just a new fun thing that will become less of a focus. I hope that a 50/50 split of manhours on DUAL expansions for dust an eve - making sure that they both get cool new features at the same time that compliment each other.

When the next addition to the new eden universe comes, the same again, but not diluting the work force expanding it in all areas equally.

I dont care for dust so i skipped some dust stuff because atm they are to still two entities with a small link - this will grow and get more interesting.

Honestly, yes, very much so.

Some folks are happy, but I'm jaded by the clear and precious memory of previous FanFests and all the awesome stuff they showed that now, years and years later, still hasn't made it into the game. Lots of folks were really happy with CCP Seagull's part of the presentation (and I have to admit, it was good). But as I was listening, all I had to do was remind myself of all the mock-ups and screenshots and videos I saw in the past FanFests that never made it. Which immediately made me adopt a guarded "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude.

I skipped all of the Dust coverage, so I don't feel it affected me much in a positive or negative way. I will continue to ignore Dust until I hear those three magic words: "Dust For PC". As a consumer, all I can do is vote with my wallet. If CCP thinks they can "liberate" console players from vastly superior and downright more fun shooters, developed by companies with years or even decades of FPS development experience, with their first FPS offering...well...it's nice that they think positive but it'll never happen. Especially not on consoles, as the design of Dust (and EVE) totally clashes with the average console gamer's mentality of instant gratification and drop-in-drop-out instant gameplay with no long-term rewards aside from making your character stronger. Throw in item loss on death, and you've just doomed your game to obscurity. But hey, what do I know?

The upcoming expansion? Also a disappointment, but this has nothing to do with CCP or the expansion itself. Simply put, nothing in this expansion is of any interest to me. Changes to ships are to those ships I no longer fly. Changes to exploration don't matter to me, as I no longer explore nor do I plan to start again. And the new jumpgate effect doesn't give me a nerd boner - a simple addition of an animation instead of a progress bar isn't enough to make me cheer. It's a nice visual change, but on a list of priorities, any visual change has the absolute lowest priority for me.

So, all in all? Yeah, pretty disappointed. But mostly because I know, deep down, that based on previous experience at least half of the stuff they showed will never happen. Or if it does happen, it'll be so far and so many years down the road that the game will be totally different by then and those changes, by then, totally meaningless.
