Being able to build stargates to uncharted systems is probably the very definition of a Jesus Feature. If CCP can pull this off it will be yet another coup for game design.

i am hoping is an entire region or hell even cluster of regions (like drone regions) full of new space...

i would use the current wh probing mechanic on how to find them...

right now a wh will send you to low/high/0.0/whspace... well why not add a few new regions of regular space like 0.0 but have the systems now connected like wh but add the ability to build destructible stargates... that way you can colonize the space...

have some advanced ai npc like sleepers in the new regions and have thier loot drops be components for some new tech. Like tech III destroyers and battleships... or tech II meta guns/missile launchers...

hell i would even make some new supercap and bring back the Mothership... its a stargate maker and acts like a mobile outpost that can be anchored and is dockable and can colonize Terran planets but is also destructible but has no fittings like a jump freighter and can only be made in a pos in one of these new systems.

Colonizing a planet allows you to setup PI and assemble ships. as without any crew a ship cannot fly and this space is so far away there is no readily available crew... so you have to setup colonies so you can run your new empire.

no titans or sc in this space or regular outposts in the new regions.

there would be no sov but the stargates would be based on standings and activation would cost ice. Stargates can be setup so people with neutral standings can pay a isk per ship to jump. limit of jump tax is set by the owner of the stargate.

capital ships cannot use the stargates and can only go threw wh's to get to new unknown space.

a mom can be packaged in a pos where it becomes an egg like ship that can be flown threw wh's. and when you get to the new system you have to setup a pos and re-assemble the MOM which takes a bunch of minerals and such...

Note a MOM is the only ship that can be assembled in the new space without a pre existing colony.

I would also tie in dust somehow where you can fly a war barge and bring them to the systems and fight over control of colonies and PI infrastructure.

must still be new here, what's a "jesus feature"?

They're playing it safe, it seems. Giving us little incremental improvements to keep the bittervets quiet and regain subs.

i do beilive this is what they are doing, polishing up the game and making current stuff work as perfectly as possible before adding a boatload of new shiny **** somewhere down the line

I don't care how broken and unfinished they were, they brought excitement with each new expansion.
We had 4 expansions without them, and even though I appreciate the countless improvements done to the game, I really want something new to play with Sad

Not complaining, just asking if anyone else feels like this.

Proper iteration > jesus features.

At the moment, the only exception i'd personally make for this is to just let us actually meet other avatars...

It's that one end-all-be-all awesome feature/idea, that will be the salvation and solution to all problems and will bring tens of thousands of new subscribers into the game.

Fixing bugs, revisiting broken features and the like is a valid strategy and is much appreciated. However, at some point, you need fresh content to keep older players* interested and to attract new players.

CCP's done a pretty good job with polish and iteration in the wake of their Incarna mistakes but, when do we get some really new major ideas? Sorry but, I don't count Crimewatch 2, revamping the clunky scanning mechanics or ship stat tweaking as new content. That's fixing stuff that needed fixing for a long time.

*Older players excludes the bittervets who hate new ideas and who want Eve to remain spreadsheets in space.

When the world is running down, you make the best of what's still around.

I sure ain't a bittervet, but I do want EvE to remain Spreadsheets in Space, and certainly against twitch gameplay. That said, I'd definitely like to have exploration actually meaning something to explore, i.e. docking up in derelicts, and walking around with a goddamn Pulse Gun (Unreal/Fallout 3 style). Better still, with a pair of rabid dust bunnies covering my back. Now that would be one hell of a Jesus Feature...

The T1 cruiser rebalance, and in particular the T1 logi, was the best "Jesus Feature" EVE has had in a long time.

And they would do even better if they got rid of the lame concept of "T3 boosters", when there are dedicated hulls for that.

For those asking for more "jesus features" you must have been asleep for the several years when that was what they did for each expansion. The problem was they dropped each one in a singe expansion and then abandoned it for at least years.

FW was laggy and the rewards were not worth the effort.
PI was poorly designed and not really thought out. Can anyone really imagine paying dustbunnies to destroy someones PI setup on a planet?
Wormholes was a great idea but the content is actually pretty small (the combat sites in each system are drawn from a set of 8).
Ihubs and the rest of the Sov revamp actually seems to have led to the present blue fest in nullsec.
Incarna was an entire expansion which overheated gpu's and added nothing to game play but actually made basic tasks harder and take more time (I remember none too fondly the first time I docked up and tried to unload some cargo and switch ships and get back in space).

That's at least partially why the eve player base revolted after Incarna. We were sick and tired of the existing issues in Eve being ignored and these new and bad features getting dropped on us. When we read that it was going to be at least 18 months before any fixes would be made well...

Far better to let them iterate on existing features for a while and plan and develop the next jesus feature fully so they don't make the same mistakes again.

personally about odyssey:
- exploration changes definitely interest me; lack of info of them is kinda annoying though - if they just change hacking to (silly) mini-game that is kinda crappy, but if they indeed introduce (lots) of new sites, add more randomization into entire thing and similar, that could be great (also no idea if they intend to look at whs - repetition of those places is just painful)
- as for rest of it, well... not impressed:
- battleship tiericide is arguably kinda... underwhelming
- navy BCs? hm... neutral on that
- tags for sec? cmon... that does not deserve to be called 'new feature'
- industry rebalances? again, hardly a new anything - definitely necessary and good job, but it is something that is done behind the scenes as part of balancing the game, not thing worthy of expansion

as for 'jesus features':
- dumb term by itself automatically implying something bad, so should not be used :) incarna is perfect example of 'jesus feature', though I am among people who fully support idea (just not current implementation - who in his right mind could ever think that releasing one 3d room will do anything (except for really pissing off people))
- contrary, wormholes are 'jesus feature done well' - we need more of that

Not entirely bad. Not entirely good either.

with some polish, it could work.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Yeah i had just finished a bowl and got a idea in my head... at this point its totally WIP... but it does have potential to be a great addon to eve and give a truely nomadic lifestyle just like the thukker tribe of Great wildlands.

No, these are necessary changes. Not really content. I believe the OP wants something shiny and interesting, and I do concur. However, it has to be taken into account that we're experiencing ship revamps; can't really introduce a new class right now unless it's a really niche thing without upsetting the process.

So you're trying to tell us the the hacking/archaeology mini-game addition isn't new content?

In my point of view the Tiericide of all ships is one of the biggest and most important things CCP is doing since Inferno. Adding Jesus-Features and Tons of new ships on an unbalanced game won't help anything, if the balance is broken. Balance first, then bring in new content carefully and adjust the balancing around it.

50/50 on that one... on one hand its new but on the other its an iteration of an already existing feature.
