I am, once again, back to subbing for EVE and I am again trying to decide what I would like to do. I don't have long to play most evenings so would like to make the most of the time I do have and I think Wormhole scanning and clearing sounds like good fun. I have all the relevant skills for scanning and can fly a Drake quite well, all TII fits.

My questions;

I would like to do all my scanning and site clearning in one ship, is the Drake a viable option?
If so what would be a recommended fit for scanning and clearing?
Obviously I will be starting off slow and attempting to find C1 and C2 sites, how much can you make from a site and on average how long would I take to clear?

Thanks in advance for any help.

One ship will be very difficult at best. Remember the isk will be in the salvage so you need to scan, kill and salvage with one ship... Drake can definitely do the kill and salvage for C1/C2. I would suggest a dedicated scanning boat for that part.

Joining a WH corp might be a possibility. You can work with others as well as use your POS as a base of operations. You will learn a bunch about WH as well.

If you have limited play time, joining a well established corp or alliance is your best bet.

If going solo, in order to be productive you would need a dedicated scanner alt really, i.e. covert ops with good scanning skills - all lvl 4 at least.

The income from C1 and C2 sites is not that great from what i remember. Maybe 50-100 mill per hour tops? If you have enough sites to do.

The effective and efficient extraction of resources from w-space requires the coordinated efforts of a number of functions. While it is often **possible** to merge several of these functions into one character and one ship the compromises necessary start to eat away at your overall effectiveness.

As a bare minimum you need to be able to locate the resources (probe scanning or system scanner), harvest them (DPS and salvage/loot/hack/crack, or mine/harvest with a little DPS on the side), keep a watch out for hostiles (probes or / and DS), and then haul your spoils safely out to somewhere for conversion-to-isk (probe scanning and ‘hauling’ depending on volumes involved).

If you limit your scope to sleeper anoms you still need DPS, salvaging, and probe scanning … all in one ship if that’s your thing. That can be done, but it’s a pain.

I spent a lot of time running ‘solo’ w-systems, C2-C5 inclusive, but my view of solo was usually several alts (usually four) at a time. So, if you are a one-character player then I’d suggest hooking up with a decent established w-space corp / alliance. That way you’ll be able to get involved in a reasonably engaging way and will learn more about w-space. Then, if you do move towards multiple characters, you can look at going w-space ‘solo’ later if you wish.

There are, of course, lots of options available, and not everything appeals to everyone.

W-space ‘ratting’ is an option that sometimes appeals to noobish folk who want to do some wormhole play. Base yourself in empire space and scan down wormholes. When you find a good one, with lots of grav and ladar sites, scan those sites down. And clear the sleepers that spawn in them. Assuming things have not changed since I left w-space those sleepers only spawn once and their spawning is delayed 10-15 minutes after you first warp to the site. Loot, salvage, and hop back out to empire.
The benefits of this approach are: 1. You’re based in empire space; 2. Those sleepers are much easier to kill than the sleepers you will find in the anoms and other sigs in the system; 3. A hostile has to probe-scan down the site, or your ship, to get to you (but may have scanned the site before you did); and 4. Your asset and time commitment are pretty low to start with. The main downsides are: 1. You’re in w-space and so it is likely that someone is actively working to kill you; and 2. The isk from ratting those sites is generally not as good as the isk from the anoms in the system.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.
