Warping - finally the "punch" warp?

Agreed that the punch effect seems much cooler.

I also prefer the tweaked warp tunnel effect in the vid too.

I think this again comes down to just how old and crappy a lot of player computers are.
Basically they are running into hardware issues client side and code issues server side.
Both of which are due to upgrades.

Also does anyone know why I am not receiving updates from subscribed threads?

n.b. if you have brackets off, then when a ship you're looking at warps off, the "punch" effect is already pretty noticeable as they disappear into a single pixel pretty damn fast. If you have brackets on this effect is ruined as they persist at the "horizon" point for a while.

You can see it in all it's glory here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=sGobBjJPJKk#t=104s

If you're fussed, you probably really want to ask for CCP to just auto-remove brackets from a ship going to warp

What he said.

Confirming that this is a completely insurmountable problem and there is simply no way the graphics caching could be adjusted to compensate.

I would like to see the amount of memory on the average graphics card for someone in eve.

GTX 550TI 2GB here and usually only using 408M, perhaps a static memory cache would help this with ship models preloaded?

We could always just go full BSG FTL and simply flash/dissappear.

But where would be the fun in that?

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

EVE Universe: Origins trailer shows multiple scenes of ships warping.

At the beginning, of the ships leaving Earth, they accellerate a LOT faster than ships currently do, along with that flash coming from the engines.

And near the end, where the pilot is in warp, then stops and immediately arrives on the battlefield without seeing it from a distance first. I LOVE THAT.

CCP, please make this happen for real in the game.
"Punch" warps are way more awesome than the "slide slowly into grid" warp.

It's incredibly advanced Terran tech - consider that we see them warp directly from Earth to the EVE gate.

The other warp would be awful - It's important that I can see a fight for that extra second before I become actually involved in it.

in the trailer they kinda stole that effect from the new star trek movie if you remember they just popped out of warp into the battlefield. If you can find it anymore ccp once had a video showing battleships just jumping from o m/s circa 2003

it would be fun and look cool for the people staying on grid watching others come and go, which makes me think...

What about an option to watch yourself warp, which you can do now but 'look at' switches to your ship when you activate so it doesnt work unless you are aligned. What if this was fixed to not switch back when activating warp and the animation for a player leaving was sped up? would that work?

best of both worlds?

Thread notifications are actually broken for a lot of people.

The funny thing about our conception of faster than light and what it would look like is that its nearly impossible to know what it would look like since we had no observation of such an event that I know of.

We can extrapolate from some know science to try to imagine what it might look like.

As the object accelerates to light speed you should experience the classic red shift but once that object goes faster than light it should be shifted outside the visual spectrum. Or I would theorize.

I vote yes on the punch warp effect.

By their fruit you will recognize them.

+1 - Agreed This is EXACTLY how warp should look and feel.

Alignment time is fine, but get rid of the acceleration, sometimes you dont even hit full warp.
