Overall, very nice. Explaining that DUST soldiers are superior because they are cloned felt weak. It would have been better to explain why that copied brain is better rather than just telling that it's cloned.

  • Perhaps clones are superior physically due to purpose-grown battle bodies?
  • Their clones can be implanted (thought interfaces, targeting computers, etc.) more cost efficiently, because skills to use those implants are not lost upon death, unlike on mortal soldiers?
  • Or that they can be implanted at all, because the clones can be grown around the implants, instead of needing to do difficult brain surgery?
  • Or that the soldiers had time to practice the assault several times with live ammunition, because "death is obsolete"?

Of course, it is probably wise to steer clear of trying to explain how skill training works. Stating "you are in a computer game" is pretty bad in an in-character chronicle. Unless the people involved happen to be on a full VR environment.

In my opinion, other than the exposition on clone soldiers which are cloned, the actions scenes were good. The very beginning and the very end were quite excellent.

Glad to know Ché's impression was right. I hope he finds out some day.

Nice work, because of CCP Falcon.Cool

Edit: I did find the part of the story that concerned the ECIAD capsuleers a bit harder to comprehend than the rest of the story. Not just why they were there, but I had trouble visualizing who was who and doing what.

Well, I have to say I am disappointed in Heth as this story, and he himself, unravels, though I can't decide whether to call it disappointment in his actions or his portrayal.

It would appear that he may be starting to become a little desperate to assert his authority. Who knows where things will go from here. Smile

Thanks for the kind words guys, they're very much appreciated. I have to admit that putting work out there in front of everyone makes me a little nervous. Smile

I was deeply saddened by the ending. Mad props to Yanala. This is the kind of quality writing that will pull people to the game just like it did to me. Also, kitten Heth. I was supportive of his ideas, but we're starting to see that he himself is weak and should be demoted according to the very policies he laid out for his people.

Thank you, Falcon. I look forward to your books :)

edit:
Yanala needs something befitting her legacy. Tovil-Toba got a mention on the Titan's description and in the ranks for FW, and Yanala probably saved as many lives if not more with her actions.

Thanks for the feedback, and for the kind words.

I didn't dig too deeply into the biological differences between standard troops and DUST mercs because this chronicle wasn't intended to be an infodump or serve as a tech article.

It was intended just as a narrative to show March 22nd from a selection of vastly different viewpoints. Smile

As someone who was pretty riveted through out the event I am a bit confused by this factual inconsistency. I was not in game but I was following events. The first announcement of the engagement was that the Shiigeru destroyed a Concord ship using the Oblivion weapon. During the recharge time of the weapon, Gallente and hostile capsuleer forces jumped in and engaged the Shiigeru. The Cyno interdiction field went up preventing any supporting forces to jump to the Shiigeru's defense.

It seems that a different set of events were detailed here.

What players can do is not the same as the empires can do. CONCORD keeps a much tighter leash on us. The Empires however have more control over what they do (The Federation controls Cyno jammers in their territory, Navies can use DDD in any sec space)

There are no inconsistencies here. The only thing I saw that would come close is a Creodron Swarm Launcher, and even then it's entirely plausible that does exist but it just isn't available to player DUST Mercs (ECAID being ECAID, they get all the shiny prototype toys). Also, sometimes weapons get Chronicle/Cut-scene power (such as the HMG, but then again it was shooting a thin-skinned transport)

Does Heth even know that the deployment of a doomsday-class weapon on a planet pretty much results in everyone on the planet dying? There was a planet a few years back that got doomsdayed by an Avatar ... took 2 months before the storms in the atmosphere calmed down enough to attempt a landing, a landing by 24th millenium dropships.

Very Good Chronicle/Short Novel there Falcon looking forward to more from you...

Have to agree with others though CONCORDS presence on the planet did seem a tad retconned in although OOC it does sort of explain why the Titans armor/structure dropped so quickly...

This line alone has interesting developments, is there a faction out there who controls CONCORD agents?

Yanala went out sticking it to Heth, that was beautiful to read and the best part of the Chronicle imo. Just a shame Heth didn't join her in drinking some tea.

Shitposts so bad CONCORD gave me a 50 billion ISK bounty

As the two ECAID members said, they were not operating on behalf of CONCORD. There is reference to where they're from in the chronicle, and their motivations for helping.

I was unable to take part in the event, but what I have read after the fact suggested that there were only maybe 1600~ ships in local when the Shiigeru went down? Were the Caldari-loyal capsuleers actually outnumbered by such a significant amount, or some creative license?

Definitely an interesting read regardless, much thanks to Falcon.

I believe they were, Sentar. Although I think a lot of the people there were shooting at both sides.

Also, really like this chronicle. Not only does it confirm a lot of the hypothesis that I had, but I really love the depiction of Yanala at the end.

I hope battle of caldari prime was the last staged event with fixed results. For the sake of consistencies in stories and for the sake of people attending the event.

I reread Yanala's speech at the end listening to this and I had some fairly intense chills :)
