What exactly is the point of the gratuity gift of one tritanium given in the cargo of rookie ships?

You can trade it for something else.

Why not?

The insurance company just had to fork out for a new frigate because your dumb butt got blown off. Again. They're out tens of millions of ISK every day for replacement n00b frigates. You think this doens't just chap their hides in some place tender? Of course it does. So they flip you the bird, but in a way where they can pretend they're being solicitous: The single unit of trit.

It's like tipping a waiter a nickel because they pissed you off.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Tradition.

In the past it was for can dueling (I'm making this up) but now it's the tradition of the thing.

If you are a truly newb, totally broke player, you actually get more than just 1. When I was newb and lost my only rookie ship, and had like zip for isk and assets, I remember getting like 2000 trit, or some such.

So, I think the 1 is just the minimum for non-total newb, not totally broke toons.

Dont look a gift Ibis in the mouth. Take your single trit and be happy that you got a gratuity gift at all.

They give you a free ship, with a free ammo-free weapon and a free mining laser..and the free trit. Be happy, because in most games all you get is a free loincloth.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Hmm, I wonder if anybody has traded up to 1 billion ISK starting just with one little trit.

Watch_ Fred Fred Frederation_ and stop cryptozoologist! Fight against the brutal genocide of fictional creatures across New Eden! Is that a metaphor? Probably not, but the fru-fru- people will sure love it!

So enterprising players can try to trade up for something better until they obtain a Titan...

I go to every station in highsec in my pod once a month & get a free rookie ship. Been doing that for years.

I now have 27,456 units of Trit. for free.

I call that WINNING!

I call that insane. P It would have been much more effective timewise to fit a civilian miner on an Itteron and hit the belts.

insanity that it is, thats still an impressive accomplishment if true. Poor Pend for having to fork over the 27k rookie ships though.

Its so you can "quit the game" and sell that one trit to some poor schmuck for millions.

After the patch we're giving the market some gentle supply restriction, like tying one wrist to the bedpost loosely with soft silk rope. Just enough to make things a bit more exciting for the market, not enough to make a safeword necessary.  -Fozzie

Can I have free loincloth? In the character re-customization?

Yeah I saw a couple of threads in MD a couple of years ago where someone did exactly that. A few months later someone did it again. I'm pretty sure they both had a rule of not being able to take things for free (including donations) or undock. It was an interesting series of threads.

Still have my tritanium(or atleast a very convincing copy of it) from 2003, sitting in my first mission hub for interbus.

Ah itnerbus, nothing like popping rats in the name of fast and reliable deliveries.

The rookie ship is pretty much the equivalent of a loincloth.

Well, if I get the tritanium out of the velator, then blow it up, then dock again for another unit, and do that a few dozen million times, then I might have enough tritanium to sell for a Vindicator! \o/

Someone.

I will not stand for the besmerchment of the Noobship name good sir!

The Noobship is the ship of choice for both fresh from the clonebay capsuleers and the uber-elite pilots of New Eden.

Never actually thought about it to be honest...
My guess would be that its simply a "joke" CCP came up with at some point, and as someone mentioned, it just became tradition. Sort of like Scotty... Annoyed me so many times but now i miss being able to sit and swear at him when he is telling me i cant undock because he is being slow Lol

CCP has many small things like that in the game that are just "humorous" but does not really affect anything, like the warning signs, and numerous error messages like these;
It's generally not a good idea to trade with yourself. You're pretty sure that you'll end up stealing all your stuff

Still insane but less so than the original plan: dock, get trit, trash rookie ship, undock, dock.. etc.
