Hah so true actually. That was actually one of the decider factors when deciding what car to buy. I thought if something goes wrong with this then I can reship into a new car and so went for the cheaper one. :)

I would deny this, except that it's true.
P

An EVE 'Lifer' has to have a fairly thick skin, or a high tollerance for harassment for those who's skin isn't so thick.
They have to have a philosophical ease with loss, and the willingness to suffer for future gain.
They need to be flexible and adaptable, but also willing to dig-in and hold their ground.
They need to be powerful forum warriors. Or at least not idiots.
Lol

NON-EVE survivors:
Anyone obsessed with 'fair play.'
Anyone who feels they're a 'special snowflake.'
Anyone who can't adapt.
Anyone who can't take a gank or a joke or a good podding.
Anyone who can't learn from a mistake.

(Edited)

Sense of humor and a cavalier attitude towards pretty much everything, is essential in EVE.
I have also found that (much like IRL) alcohol is an amazing aid for "dealing wit' it"....

Hello General Discussion.

As we all know, the player community of Eve Online is the most intelligent, welcoming and newbie-friendly.

Well, I am not a newbie; In my five years of eve-ing I've seen pretty much it all. I was a wide-eyed newcomer, gasping "wow, this game world is HUGE!" before jumping into a bubble+instalock camp; I was a FW farmer and a pick-up fleet member, pressing F1 frantically at a random bracked sorted by name; I was an alliance drone, quietly doing my daily share of work; I bashed POSes; I refueled POSes; I AFK cloaked an un-probable Loki in your dead-end ratting haven; I sucide ganked Hulks and Mackinaws; I joined RvB and exploded for the lulz; I (*gasp*) even roleplayed a spaceship slaver barbie for a bit, only to understand that the EVE's RP community actually breaks more immersion than it creates.

Now, there is nothing left, but faint curiosity, and to satisfy that last desire, i turn to you, my dear colleagues, brothers and sisters in pixelated destruction, and it is to you that I address my last question.

As we all know, EVE's player community is inherently elitist. It preys on the tears of the weak or those who are perceived as such and weeds them out. By consuming the unworthy, the beast moves forward. But who are worthy and who are not? This is the question that I offer to you to answer.

- - -

What are the qualities that, in your opinion, make the "true" EVE player, one who is here to stay?

And what are the opposite, the signs of "WoW is that way -->"?

Thank you for your answers.
Always remember, that it is to you that CCP shapes their game.
Like, as in "Emergent gameplay", "Players are the content" and all that.

I'd end up spending more time ambushing Felonia Despare than doing anything else, if I was in TEST.

This thread is going to become a monument to everybody claiming "what is" when it's really what they want to see but have yet to break out of the mere fact they are playing a game and that's all they are doing.

When I want to feel better about myself, I go out and do things that mean something, THEN I log in and relax knowing that I have earned well my right to say "F**k you world, I'm playing with internet spaceships and getting drunk for a while. I'm off the clock."

Arguably the percentage of water may vary depending on how many tears have been consumed.

Felonia and I go way back. My Ishkur was undefeated until I went on a roam with him as FC.
I honestly liked the guy. Still do.... but I did promise he would pay for the loss of my beloved Ishy :p

For me two things combine to make a good Eve player. Someone who can set their own goals and is willing to work toward them, and someone who understands that loss happens in this game and can deal with it.

For most newbies the biggest thing to get over is that when you lose something, it is gone forever. Once you can accept that you are good to go.

I kind of want a small Gallente Federation logo for my back window..... just big enough so that other EVE folks will notice it, but nondescript enough so that most people will just say "oh.... cool birdy."...

Actually that's a lot more accurate. Thank you.
