Eh, i didn't read most of what you wrote.

Low sec means other players can attack you. With no great consequences really. So like, if someone finds you in a belt, they'll attack.

You could mine there any time you want in your current ship (venture).

I don't think as of right now there is a reward in terms of isk/hour to make it worth while.


If by some odd chance you meant .6 or .5 as low sec, you could do those now as well.

mining barge > all other skill considerations as a new player.

mining in low sec is something only retards do. don't do it, you're not ********.

flying a mining barge > t2 mlus > t2 mining crystals. that's the order of things you're best off training for.

All great advice but that. Orca's almost 100% die in Low Sec unless extremely well defended by other 'paid' players. ( I may have misunderstood you because of the 'or'.)

Core skills, i.e. the ones that give you maximum hitpoints, capacitor, speed, CPU/Powergrid, etc are NEVER a bad thing as they effect 100% of the ships in Eve. It takes less than 2 weeks to have a fully T2 Shield Tank on any Mining ship, which is what they all use in terms of tank (mostly mid slots). As for going to the a Barge, yes you should work on that if you want to mine with any real efficiency. The max a Venture is gonna push is maybe 3-5 mil/hr. Any Barge (I prefer Procurer for it's tanking ability) can push 8+ mil/hr even with lowish skills. Once you get fully T2 with your mining related modules (incl the ship bonuses) + add in a freindly Orca boost you shouldn't have a problem pushing 15-22 mil/hr.

I will say this now, TANK YOUR MINING VESSEL. I know how much players want to fit max yield and just 'hope' they don't get ganked but they are the EXACT players the gankers target. They will fit a ship with a passive targeter and scan you without you're knowledge to see what's on the ship. If it's fit max yield and little to no tank you may find yourself in a pod a few minutes/hours later. This ofc assumes you will be mining in 0.5+ sec. Don't mine in Low, just not worth it, mine in Null if you can get into a NRDS Alliance, especially if it's an Industrial Corp/Alliance, that's where the real Isk is. But still don't expect not to lose ships, it WILL happen so keep your Clone insured at all times.

Then you live in a happy/peaceful little corner of Highsec because I can 100% assure you that it happens all day long on a regular basis in MANY systems throughout Eve. A SKIFF isn't likely to be targeted by a ganker even without a tank fit, but a Hulk/Mack sure as hell are, and do get killed daily. There probably isn't a single day that has gone by in the past 3 months that at least 1 Hulk/Mack wasn't ganked in or within 2 jumps of my home system. If YOU are lucky enough not to have been ganked, grats to you, but it DOES happen and saying it doesn't is either naive or ignorant.

It isn't that lowsec itself should be seen as off-limits, only that the increase in profits from mining lowsec ores is typically slim to non-existent compared to empire ores.

I have been mining now for . . . well lets just say a long time! If you like mining and want to take it serious than get into a barge ASAP and an Exumer as soon as you can after that. As far as exumers go if you are mining solo I would go with a Mackinaw since it has a larger ore hold than the Hulk. I will stress though that you need to tank your mining ship. Some may have never lost an Exumer, but many have and a tank will go a long way in helping you survive long enough to hopefully get warped out.

Advice: Always keep an eye on local and don't AFK mine. Paying attention to your surroundings will go a long way in keeping you alive longer.

Find a good indy corp to join. Industrial corps are great for dedicated miners as they will teach you and support you. They will also have Orca support and big mining ops usually with protection in system. Additionally, if you want to mine for better ore in Low and Null sec belonging to a good industrial corp will get you there. I have mined both low and Null and I enjoy it, but I always have protection there while we do our thing.

Work on skills: Train all shield skills (ie. shield compensation etc) to max level as they will aid your tankability. Train the individual shield compensations as well (ie Em compensation, Kinetic Compensation, etc.). If you work a second account train it for an Orca and the possibilities grow.

Both me and my Orca alt are trained in repair drones. If attacked we can both put drones on each other for reps while getting out of dodge. Seems complicated, but it is worth it. My corp actually fits our Orca's with a logistics fit and believe it or not in a mining op the Orca actually kept hulks alive (while we were getting out) vs 2 BS's. In the mean time our forces arrived and killed both attackers. I cannot stress enough however, find a corp or some friends to mine with. Its funner, better conversation, and haul is awesome. Welcome to the mining profession though, stick with it and you can and will make iskies.
