Hi all,

I'm looking for a place to setup a POS as an industrial base and I'm researching locations via DOTLAN. How accurate is it? In particular I'm referring to the "Alliance/Corp" data, because for the most part they are unclaimed, which seems strange to me.

Empire systems (0.1 to 0.7) are not owned by any corporation or alliance.
NPC Nullsec (Venal, Outer Ring, Syndicate, etc) are also not owned by corporations/alliances.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Omist is a great region for you to base out of. A lot of unclaimed sov, so you can put your POS up on any number of moons. Also, I hear the residents are nice people who'll give you docking rights.

Why aren't they owned by corps/alliances? Is there some kind of agreement not to attempt a sov takeover?

npc null is like empire where a corp/alliance cant claim sov. however a corp or alliance can be in an area and say "this is our space" like worm holes and keep others from setting up poses/moving in.

Someone "hit the button" on TCU Alliance and all sov got dropped. Also, Omist is WAAAAAAAY back woods space. Decent truesec in that region, but it is so remote that not many people want it unless they already live in a neighboring region. I would venture to say, Omist is about as remote as you can get in Eve while remaining in Kspace.

I used to think so until I lived there (Old Atlas). Running jump freighters and other logistical operations there was a pain in the ass, even when everyone was blue and BFF.

Where are you thinking about setting up a POS? High, low, or nullsec?

All high and lowsec systems and some nullsec systems are owned by NPCs. The only barriers to putting up a POS is who might decide to take it down for you. Sov nullsec and NPC nullsec are different things, keep that in mind.

And as to your actual question, I've never had any issue whatsoever with Dotlan's accuracy, it pulls straight from the API AFAIK. I'm guessing you're looking at the wrong filter, try the Sovereignty option in the drop down if you want to see the alliance/faction that owns the system, the Corp one only shows the controlling corp (which is only in sov nullsec).
