The art aesthetic EVE so casually threw away

Remember when the EVE art style used to look like this?

Why'd CCP ever give up on things that look like that?

because caldari are the easiest race to V3 - why not just pretend the other races are caldari too?

I swear in V4 the domi is going to get painted gunmetal grey and get a big C slapped on the side

Princess Amidala didn't wear a reversed salad bowl on her head.

Because they no longer have any good art people. They have ruined every good ship that was in the game already.

If anyone on the art team hasn't seen 1984s Dune yet, they may need to be strapped in a chair and be exposed to several repeats of it for artistic indoctrination.

I've seen some of the earlier artwork, and a lot of it seems to have a sort of cyberpunk feel.
I guess CCP gradually came to realise that EVE Online isn't a cyberpunk game, and modified the art accordingly.

Nothing cyberpunk at all about neural implants, neural remapping, informorph psychology, etc. :S Nothing cyberpunk about the plugs on the spinal cords of the characters (that can never be seen anyway.)

EVE's art technology has improved, but the art itself is blander than oatmeal.

The forums look like a GAP advert, all the models in leather jackets and t-shirts with their hands on their hips....I wish we could get some sci-fi backSad

That's not really cyberpunk. On it's own that's just sci-fi.
This video has a really good explanation of how the two genres really differ: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXVO1HCNQ8M

Edit: actually, thinking about it now there are a surprising amount of cyberpunk elements in EVE, in a way. Wow. I didn't even see that until now Lol
It doesn't look like cyberpunk, and I feel it lacks the spirit, or feel of cyberpunk, but there are certain elements that could be seen to play into it still being cyberpunk, to an extent.

As a reader of William Gibson's fiction since1979 issues of Omni Magazine, I must say that you are most wrong.

Why'd CCP ever give up on things that look like that?

Gotta say I do miss the futuristic look we used to have on our characters. I really do want that back.

I think the OP answered their own question with that link. Who thinks that looks good? Gaudy, poor taste...it looks horrid. No wonder they changed the style.

immortal demigods have awful taste in style? Whodathunk? I mean a regular mortal celebrity will often have tacky over the top tastes. Still though, tacky and over the top beats the k-mart rejects that it got turned into. By a wide margin.

Looks better than the bland gap inspired Avatars we have currently. My Ni Kunni used to looks awesome, but they removed all the awesome options with the new creator. Wish we could get some of that back. Also the Gallente used to look crazy. And ammarians had an option to wear almost a metal suit of armour. That was flipping awesome! Bring back those options again. Never realised it but the OP is right.
