Pirate Missioning

I am still pretty new and wanted to start trying a little PvP, so I made an alt pirate. Got her trained on most of her ship/gunnery skills. Now I'm thinking of trying to set out into low sec and 0.0 space to do pirate missions (Just for a change and maybe get ships/gear). But considering my low PvP experience (non-existant so far) and location, is it a good idea? Would I continuously get smoked or harrassed while missioning or is it a more fun ride to the needed experience?

Most pirate missions are based in nullsec. The missions themselves are same / similar to the ones you get in hisec / lowsec .... with some that are pirate-only. You need the skills (ingame and skillbook) to be able to complete those missions. You also need the ingame skills to operate fairly safely in and around nullsec, but not necessarily PvP skills per se. Of course many people also want to do PvP stuff when they're in nullsec.

If you're missioning in nullsec you **will** get harassed and you will get yourself killed (my most recent getting-killed experience) but it is more fun and more challenging than hisec mission running. Nullsec missions do reward you better than their hisec equivalents, but given the additional effort and risk I doubt I'd recommend them if all you're after is isk.

There's lots of ways you could approach this, but you may wish to give some thought to:

  1. Getting your standings up enough to access lvl3 agents with the corps listed below. This will give you access to a starter agent for each of the two pirate epic arcs.
  2. 1a (optional) Buy our pirate epic arc support packages ( https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=12973&find=unread ). They are very good and they will make the next step a whole lot easier.
  3. Run the Angels and Guristas pirate epic arcs. This will give you some experience in nullsec and will boost your pirate corp / faction standings with angels / guristas. You could also leave ships(s) and a jump-clone in each of those locations to make it easier when you wish to go back.
  4. Consider running the hisec pirate cosmos missions to further boost your standings. I've not run these yet but there is a PDF guide available on the web.
  5. If you're still keen to go play in NPC-nullsec then you will have some more experience, and higher standings which will help you access more lucrative agents.

Another approach to getting some more nullsec experience is to join a nullsec corp for a while. This is what I did and (except for the big fleet battles which I did not enjoy) it was a whole lot of fun.

Many other possible ways to go, and doubtlessly others will guide you on some of them.

Good luck with this pursuit.

Starter agents, their corps and factions, for the pirate epic arcs. All require basic lvl3 agent access standings of 3+ with corp or faction, providing that neither corp nor faction is less than -2.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

Substantia Nigra posted some very good info above.

However, before setting out to 0.0 there's a few things you could do in high sec that will help. This will enable you to have positive standings and access to high level agents in all Pirate Factions.

Since this is a new character, train up Criminal Connections, Negotiation and Social skills asap. If you have negative standings with Pirate Factions, train up Diplomacy.

While doing that, complete missions for the Angel and Guristas Pirate Cosmos Agents. Alternate between Angel and Guristas as you work up through the levels.

http://dl.eve-files.com/media/0911/Carebear_COSMOS_Extreme_v1.2.pdf (Pirate Cosmos Guide)

Completing those missions will incur both positive and negative derived standings towards all other Factions. However, it will also allow access to high level Pirate Agents. Keep watch on the Empire Faction standings and train Diplomacy skill when needed to maintain Empire Factions above -5.00 standing. This way you'll be able to complete the Pirate Cosmos Agent missions since they are located in Empire high sec systems..

After that you can then complete the level 3 Pirate Epic Arcs which will give you an extra large Faction standing boost. Also Substantia Nigra's support packages will help.

If you only plan on working with one specific Pirate Faction, then only concentrate on it and it's allies.

-Allied Pirate Factions-
Angel and Serpentis
Guristas, Sansha and Blood Raiders

Tip: The level 4 Amarr Epic Arc has an option to switch sides and complete it for Sansha to gain at least 10% Faction standing increase.

After completing this, then you could jump into the life of a pirate and whenever needed, complete a mission for a high level Pirate Agent to gain some quick isk.

Thank you both very much for the replies and answers. Looks like I'll leave her in the station for a little more training before setting out. Definitly sounds like I have alot of work to do before setting out, lol.
