I was wondering about the "perfect" 0 sec miner.

I suppose it is something like this (?):

Mining Yield Skills:
Mining 5
Astrogeology 5
Exhumer 5
Electronics 5
Mining Upgrades 4 (?)

Drones:
Drone Interfacing 5
Drones 5
Mining Drone Operation 5

Survival:
Mechanic 5
Shield Management 5
Shield Operation 5
Tactical Shield Manipulation 5
Hull Upgrades 5

Refining:
Refining 5
Refinery Efficiency 2 (?)

Crystal skills:
Jaspet Processing
Kernite Processing
Omber Processing
Plagioclase Processing
Pyroxeres Processing
Scordite Processing
Veldspar Processing
etc.

+ Hardeners (?):
Em Shield Compensation
Explosive Shield Compensation
Kinetic Shield Compensation
Thermic Shield Compensation

-

Would you add anything to the listQuestion
Do you see something that isn't neededQuestion

For a new miner just entering 0 sec what skills would you adviseQuestion
What is the mining yield of a perfect miner (the m3 of 1 laser)Question

i would drop tactical shield manipulation to 4
add some combat drone skills in how the hell else are you going to fend off rats solo

but over all pretty good maybe work on getting the higher end t2 crystals

Very good points - TSM V is basically worthless (arguably worse than IV, but not gonna get into that debate, search the forums).

Also, get Refining Efficiency V for potentially refining in less-then-perfect stations.
Metallurgy IV will open up all the T2 ore crystals by opening up the ore processing skills, and you'll want 'em all to IV if your focused on mining.

Add some key Navigation skills too - Spaceship Command, Navigation, Evasive Maneuvering and Warp Drive Operation will all help keep your crappy mining ship more agile, slightly faster, and able to warp across big systems from belt to belt/gate to gate without capping out.

Similarly, train Energy Systems Operation and Energy Management. Those strip miners run on cap just like your warp drive.

I'd skip the shield hardener skills, get Shield Upgrades past IV, and also train Jury Rigging past IV. Then train Shield Rigging past IV (if you're going to use rig slots to tank your miner) or Drone Rigging past IV (if you're going to focus on drone mining yield). And it could potentially help your drones (depending on your mining style) to train Electronic Warfare to IV and train Electronic Warfare Drone Interfacing (increases drone range, but downside is that longer range means more time traveling/less time mining). Scout Drone Operation will also boost your drone range, with the same drawback described above. However, this can be offset by training Drone Navigation (increased drone speed = increased drone mining yield).

When it comes to fitting your ship, don't forget Electronics and Engineering skills. You'll want to check your fit in EFT to see if any other fitting skills are necessary, but those two are pretty big.

Quality of life skills would include Long Range Targeting (increase locking range to ensure you can lock farther than you can mine) Survey (marginally increase the speed of your 'roid scanner, if you use one) and Signature Analysis (marginal increase in the time it takes to lock onto a 'roid). Targeting skills will allow you to have a couple extra rocks pre-locked for when the current ones run out.

Cybernetics will open up access to training implants, as well as implants that can improve other aspects of your ship (navigation/refining/fitting/etc.)

A couple levels of the Trade skill will make sure you don't have a problem selling your ore/minerals. A couple levels in Connections and Social skills will give you higher standings (useful for reducing high sec corp taxes when refining).

Deep core mining is worth adding onto the list. Mercoxit isn't uncommon and is currently the most profitable ore per m3.

I'd also add rigging skills onto that whether it be something for defense, speed/agility or ice/merco yeild.

For refining:
all the ore processing to 5
refining to 5
refinery efficiency to 5
Cybernetics 5 (for the refining implant)

This'll let you refine in any station at 100% (35% base), less taxes.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

What about the 4 sensor compensation skills? As I understand it, these could help defend somewhat against electronic warfare. These are not the Engineering shield compensation skills. These are Electronics skills: Gravimetric, Ladar, Magnetometric, Radar sensor compensation.

Everyone living in 0.0 should train Infomorph Psychology to at least one, probably 2-3 so you can have a highsec clone, an implants clone, and a 0.0 no-implants clone.

Signature Analysis ... is a minor addition

You definitely want T2 mediums for the rats that spawn
Combat, Durability, Navigation, Interfacing at 3-4 should help

Train 'Watch Local' to at least L10

If someone is jamming you . . . just laugh.

if your barge is being jammed your dead in space anyway align and be ready to gtfo in your pod.

Flying a barge, if they're jamming you, you can't mine. That's not the significant threat. Them pointing (webbing, scrambling) you is the threat. If a neut/hostile lands a point in null, you will be lucky to go home in your pod.

I can't really comment on the "perfect 0 sec miner" skills other than to say "they look fine to me" because those are better skills than I had (and have) when I was mining in nullsec 2 months ago. Have jump clones. Know where mercoxit spawns (if at all in your region)

Half the skills are character skills (like your list) and the other half are between your (you the player's) ears (hence the gags about "watch local 5"). Be able to tank the rats, watch local and know when it time to bravely advance in the rearward direction to your POS/outpost.
