I figured that I'd write a little something up, not just for CCP to read, but hopefully for other players to read and take amusement from. :)

I've attended Fanfest multiple times over the last 10 years, but not since I first visited in 2005 have I gone for the actual Fanfest content.

Developer Panels, CCP Presents, the Keynotes. All good fun and highly entertaining, but not the primary reason why I've now travelled out to Iceland on 4 separate occasions.

In 2007, the Corp/Alliance I was in arrived at Fanfest en-masse, with 25-30 people. Many fun times were had with the gathering of players from the Mercenary Coalition, and in 2012 - we had 15-20 people from my current Alliance - Pandemic Legion - make an appearance.

With the 10th Anniversary celebrations, we knew it would be an excellent opportunity to push hard for a huge turnout from our specific group, and an opportunity that may not arise again to such an extent in the future. This year Fanfest 2013 has been an event in the planning since but a couple of days after the last fanfest finished. The likes of Ander [SNIGG], and Dri Kulsane [BDCI] spent considerable time and resources planning a dinner at Sjavargrillid, along with other events over the course of the week. Discounts and Happy Hours were organised in bars across town, and I have a spreadsheet of all the PL organised stuff, overlaid on top of the Fanfest organised events, and it's been an incredibly busy week. :)

Trying to get all of the PL people in one place was, to label it mildly - like trying to herd cats

Whilst I'm not 100% sure of our turnout this year, I believe the total number who arrived was somewhere in the region of ~74. Out of an Alliance of around 700 Unique Characters, that's quite a turnout. :) We had people fly in from America, people from Europe, from the Middle East, and even people who made the trip from as far afield as Australia.

Last year we had the shirts, and these made a comeback once again. Radiogaga also made some official PL Flags too (we're all nerds at heart, even Hedliner), and even our friends and enemies ingame took the opportunity to hang these from the walls of Tranquility for the Keynotes (http://terrinha.smugmug.com/photos/i-HWHdfzJ/0/X2/i-HWHdfzJ-X2.jpg).

We invaded the B5 bar with so many people that - rather than kick us out, they sent us downstairs to the VIP Lounge. Twice.

We entered 3 teams into the EVE PVP Tournament, and PL's 'A' Team knocked out the 'B' Team in the first match. The 'C' Team then lost to Nulli Secunda (who were then beaten by the 'A' Team), and over the course of the two days of tournament play, Elise managed to avoid repeating the mistakes of previous tournaments. Without any propulsion mods fitted, he never quite reached the Edge of Glory, let alone went beyond it.

Here he is looking quite smug about keeping his ship in the Arena:

At the same time, Tinkeng seemed quite pleased when he realised that he was somehow too drunk to fly a logistics ship, thus causing the 'A' Team to crash out of the tournament (http://terrinha.smugmug.com/photos/i-3hKJ8f5/0/X2/i-3hKJ8f5-X2.jpg ).

Shadoo took the time during the Alliance presentation to describe to the rest of EVE as to just how PL runs as an entity. Something that not many people seem to grasp (http://terrinha.smugmug.com/photos/i-GwFTGJw/0/X2/i-GwFTGJw-X2.jpg ). He also, in a manner that only Shadoo can do - informed the EVE Universe of our new Sov-Holding Structure (http://terrinha.smugmug.com/photos/i-CVT5nQ6/0/X2/i-CVT5nQ6-X2.jpg ).

Overall though, we're all here because of a small game made way back in 2003, and one amazing Company who, despite a few setbacks on the way as Elise would say: "never stopped believing".

So, from everybody in Pandemic Legion who managed to make it along to Reykjavik this year. Thank you CCP, not just for EVE, not just for the Fanfest, but for putting up with several thousand rowdy drunken gaming nerds for the last week. <3

There's a huge number of stories that could be told, perhaps if I find time over the next week or so, I'll add them to the thread so everybody can enjoy shenanigans. :)

Edit: With the help of a few other members, we've managed to just about remember who everybody else was:

pretty much this.

with the good and bad times CCP had, they never gave up and not only did they release one of the best space mmo's around but have sustained themselves for 10 years thus far with hopefully many more to come.

Thank you ccp for never giving up even in the hardest and troubled times you've had thus far and for your continued work to make this game better each day.

Thanks to everyone who came, it was amazing to see so many people from so many different countries and continents from all over the world and travelled thousands of miles to come and eat, drink and be merry about internet spaceships - That is truly awesome and it was an absolute pleasure to meet so many of you in person!

Had an awesome time again this year. Thanks to CCP for laying it all on. And fantastic to meet so many fellow nerds from so many corps and alliances.

I have been to eight FanFests now and, as Pheonus said, the only time I'd been with so many alliance mates before was back in 2007 with about 25-30 Mercenary Coalition bros. This year blew that out of the water. Once I get a good night of home sleep behind me, I'll be blogging about this past week and posting my own pics as well.

What made this year so amazing was not just the large number of PL bros that attended, but just the sheer number of EVE players from all over the world. I met so many people and got so many man hugs. The best part about FanFest is making new friends and meeting the people behind the pixels. It was so big this year that even though I must have talked to 200+ people, there's still about 1800 friends I didn't get to meet!

Thank you, CCP, for hosting this amazing event!

Even though I have a special place on my ass for PL to kiss... even I have to admit how cool they looked with their flags draped over the balconies during the keynotes.

PL did probably have the biggest blob.
or maybe not, but we showed it a LOT more who we were than anyone else, and thats why our small group of
70 - 80 dudes stood out in 1400 people attending.

So we were sat in Islenski on Wednesday evening. There must have been 20-25 PL guys sat on the upper seating level.

I turn around and look down the table, and 109 from BDCI (the guy with the Revenant) doesn't have a beer.

The conversation goes as follows:

Phoenus> Mate, you don't have a beer, this needs to be rectified.
109> It's complicated
Phoenus> I don't care. Go and get yourself a beer.

Now, it was at this point that I realised 109 only actually drinks Guinness. Islenski doesn't serve Guinness. Not to be deterred. 109 stands up, makes his way around and through the PL crowd, and marches off through the front door to Islenski.

10-15 minutes pass, and we're sat wondering where the hell he went to.

The door opens, and 109 comes through, holding two ice-cold pints of Guinness. One in each hand. At this point, it's pretty damn funny. What tops it off though, is that halfway across the floor, one of the Bartenders turns around and tells him he can't drink that in here (as he didn't buy it). So 109 promptly gets turned around and marched back out the door.

10 minutes later, and Seleene walks in, across the room, and comes up to sit with us.

Seleene > What's up with 109? I saw him outside, shivering in the cold. Clutching half a pint of Guinness.

He walks back in 5 minutes or so later, and we're all roaring with laughter.

Hah 76 or whatever is not a small group at all :)
and yeah I think we did have a bigger blob than any other player group there.

PL had a great turnout this year and we loved this fanfest!
Im quite a critique of CCP, but fanfest is something CCP does well (except for closing keynotes).

When we started unfurling our flags at the keynote I realised something.
I would really love to see the whole Harpa filled with the banners of all the alliances / corporations who make up eve.

We asked CCP before fanfest if we could setup the flags during the whole fanfest at some spot. But the explenations were that their sponsors might get mad or that other alliances would be jealous.
Heck, I wouldnt be jealous if CVA, Razor or whoelse wants to flag alongside us!

Read the books, they're better anyway :)

+1 to PL invading Reykjavik. Looks like a great party.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.
