All they did was hide the loading bar, and show you an animation while the game still does same old stuff in the background. It's just eye candy, it's not even quality of life improvement.

According to them (CCP) they shortened the time it takes to go between systems. Maybe don't jump to conclusions without information next time.

but how can people like James continue to whine and pretend to know what they're whining about if they can't jump to conclusions?

I don't even notice the loading bars.

I will notice a huge fullscreen animation that could possible cause my computer to stutter.

It will most likely not stutter more. The loading bar is just hidden behind the graphics and it will seemingly be a shorter transition than with the loading bar.

What about traffic control? How's that being animated - black screen and crash to desktop Big smile;)

that's taken care of, don't worry. ;)

Can you comment on wormhole jumping at all?

I agree with Aprudena. I mean, any kind of loading is going to be immersion breaking and maybe crash people's computers. You could just take all the jumpgates out. Eve could be set in one system. This would free up lots of server processing stuff so that system would work REALLY well. You could also get rid of textures on ships. You hardly ever see ships close up, so why use up people's memory for something that's hardly ever seen? In fact, if you have those little boxes and things around ships, it would be good game design to remove ship models. You don't need them if you have icons. It's called OPTIMISATION. I thought you devs would have heard of it. While I'm on a roll here, you should also think about making the game 2D. I know people will be going "but space is 3d lol" but you could make it like Dwarf Fortress, where you click buttons to go up and down levels. As it is, you're putting unnecessary things into the game that will just make people computers break.

Yep, this is intended to replace the loading bars. Runs during the time taken for the client and server to resynchronise in the new system.

We also did a LOT of optimisation on how the client unloads and reloads assets on jumping. So not only is it pretty, it's less load :)

The new effect is nice and all, but during a long trip it sure seems like it would get disorienting and repetitive.

An option to turn it off (and replace with a simple black screen) would be very welcome. I also have some concerns about load time in high-lag situations, but too early to tell

Christ, there's always one, isn't there? Roll

It's an awesome animation, don't get me wrong, but his point is valid.

As opposed to looking at load bar after load bar? I'll take this.

Since this thread has dev attention, I'd like to ask a somewhat unrelated but still important question: is the titan bridge bug going to be fixed? The bug where if you join fleet or otherwise have a session change while a bridge is up then when trying to take that bridge or a subsequent one it says "this person is not a member of your fleet" or something along those lines? The only way to fix this is to log out, then log back in and rejoin fleet while the bridge is down.

It's never happened to me personally but hearing it happen to others EVERY. SINGLE. TIME gets really frustrating.
Please, please, please tell me you've fixed it.

Anyway, thank you for replying to my post earlier. I guess if it really is as optimized as you say it is then I don't really have a problem with not having the option to disable the effect. It is an awesome effect. I'm just not sure how good it will look on lower texture/shader settings, but I'm sure you have that part figured out.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

here's one you won't hear every day

How will this impact my gameplay? where on average 90% of my black screen time is under 5 seconds, I'm not sure I even see the loading bars most of the time.

the fanfest video showed an animation that runs 3-5 times as long as my usual session change, will this scale on an individual basis?, or will it be a fixed length animation that simply ends randomly depending on your load times (possibly in mid-flight) or will it force clients to view the whole thing?

I love this, I really do, but honestly its 10 years too late and should not interfere with gameplay at this stage of the game.

Wanted to clarify a few things.

We are working on hooking this effect up to jump bridges, cynos etc. so they should have the same/very similar effect.
Wormholes will get their own effect as this effect doesn't fit for them.

A very quick exit animation is played as soon as the target system is loaded, most of the effect is played before you would previously get any fade to black and loading bars which may make it seem like the transition takes longer than before, but I assure you that's not the case. We realize that slowing down the jump transition is a big no-no.

The basic mechanics of jumping haven't changed so you will be just as safe/unsafe in your travels as before.

The new effect shown in the video lasted about as long as a session change does now, there was just more going on which likely made it seem like it was longer.

Not trying to be snarky, but it really is over very quickly.

first of all: thank you for doing this it looks awesome.

here my feedback so far:
the camera rotation rollercoaster ride certainly looks cool but i am not sure if it is still cool after you did 20+ drunk jumps in a row :)
I also noticed that CCP soundwave centered the cam around the gate before the jump, i suppose if he wouldn'T have done that the cam would have been shot off center through the gate which wouldn't look as good. The other thing i noticed is that the warptunnel animation does not stop at the destination gate.. it stops at the point where you will decloak (so its basically the same problem just on the other side). It would look even more epic if the cam would land at the destination gate.

All this little problems could be avoided by replacing the cam rotation animation with a short fullscreen effect.

something like that:

jump button -> fullscreen effect -> cam appears inside start gate -> warp tunnel -> cam stops at destination gate -> fullscreen effect -> cam points at your cloaked ship

but i should probably wait before we can test it on SISI, maybe its really no problem at all.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

This is a valid concern and I think I will have to extensively test this once it hits Sisi.

I'm sure Icelandic devs are capable of in-house testing this.

I mean, all it involves is

a) Getting drunk
b) Conducting a long series of jumps
