Shortly I will be going away for quite a while to somewhere that has an internet connection (hopefully good enough to play Eve) but downloading the client will be tedious to impossible.

So is it possible to get Eve on a CD/DVD so I can install from that rather than downloading? I can't install it beforehand as I am buying a new laptop there.

I dont know but you could save the eve setup on an usb stick or something. Or just copy your installed eve on this stick.

No need to save SETUP (gigantic waste of time, traffic and nerves).
Just copy over the whole client and you may even play from your stick.
