As opposed to flying through planets and other real life simulations ingame?

You can't have a 'real life' simulation of something that humanity can't yet do. I agree that's it's silly to be able to fly through astronomical bodies, but correcting this would not change the game significantly.

However, we do train skills, and neurologists know a lot about how this happens. You can only strengthen existing synaptic connections, made by actually practicing something, through training (and a little by visualization). If the connection is not there, you cannot strengthen it. The in-game corollary is therefore, unless you have injected the skill (i.e. created the synaptic connections by initial practice), you cannot train it (i.e. strengthen the connections through further practice).

Personally, I think the skilling system is just right, and after only three months of play I can set a skill to run for the better part of a month and not log in for that time. But that is not why I play the game, and I suspect it is the same for the majority of players. And it's certainly better than other time-sink games where you get nothing if you're not online and playing.

The time it takes to train skills to what would be considered a decent level is absurd.

No, it's actually quite realistic. How long do you think pro golfers train for? Or rock guitarists? Or jugglers? It's a lot longer than a month or two.

As long as your'e paying in order to train, then they shouldn't really care how many times you log onto that character.

We don't pay to train, we pay to play. Training skills is a part of the playing of the game, not vice-versa.

It's apple pie all the way down.

But our capsuleers can download and transfer whole minds, surely adding or removing a few TB worth of info wouldn't be that hard. Smile

I play and gear my character for skills. It is a part of the game. It may not be what I came for (namely the boom boom sticks), but I'm hooked. I do research, make trade-offs, and plan out my next move. It's another type of strategy. I help out others when I can too, sharing ideas and advice.

Also, ever since they took out inactive account training, I've gone through times where I did pay to train. My character got stronger while I took care of more pressing matters IRL. Those insane level 5 skills are awesome IMHO.

We both pay to fly and to improve what we fly. The two are symbiotic and inseparable.
