Better selection system for CSM than STV: Let Chribba choose

This is a man whose reputation for honesty and neutrality transcends the game. (apologies to Grendell, another great honest broker)
The 3rd party tools and websites he maintains for Eve players, plus his in-game brokerage service, have more value than anything the 3 best devs for CCP have ever collectively accomplished.

No one questions his dedication to the game and community of Eve.
If Chribba wanted to run for CSM, he would be a automatic.
But he is likely far too busy to do that, as I surmised from his Fanfest interview yesterday.

However, he could do the game another great service, and select the 14, or 12 , or whatever number he deems fit, to be the CSM.
Enough of this system designed directly to further the goals of any one special interest group.

If Chribba simply selected people on their merits, we would have a far more honest group, and group far more interested in improving the game as a whole, as opposed to furthering the financial well-being of one select group.
We would also have a far more equitable representation of the demographics of the Eve playerbase.

Next year, let Chribba choose. It would be far more fair than the charade we have today pretending it represents democracy.

Chribba is potentially the least trustworthy person in the game. He's got the ability to crash the tritanium market for a period of years, and everyone's guard around him is so low that he could stab us all in the back with ease. Even the big alliances will do his dirty work. I'd rather give selection to the Mittani.

So what exactly do you mean by charade?

You could cast your vote, up to 14 candidates.

The only charade here is voter apathy and CCP's lackluster communication; but that doesn't need to stand in the way of anything representing democracy.

Elections aren't about merits though. In RL and in Eve, its a popularity contest.

Confirming Chribba is the biggest scam in EVE history waiting to happen.

So you'd let someone have the choice who WILL backstab you rather than someone who MIGHT do it?

That would be like giving a gun to someone who WILL kill you rather than someone who most probably won't.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

To a large degree, you are correct.
And hence having someone like Chribba decide who would make up a good CSM based on merits is a far cry better than what we have today.

Imagine how many candidates would step forward when they realize that they only have to convince one person, not beat a selection system geared to large blocs. The only downfall would be that Chibba the KingMaker would be inundated with people stepping foward, and once a year he would have an enormous workload on top of the great service he does for the game now.

The player base needs to get folk like Keith Eaton onto the CSM.

It is a shame he does not run for the CSM.

The CSM needs more folk like him, rather than the, 'but I want Eve to changed to suit my alliance, corp, security sector of Eve because we are important' folk.

This is not a signature.

I'd want something that honours Chribba for being ... well ... Chribba,
because he really got short on fanfest, i think.

Not complaining about those who got the gfx cards, but i have never heard of them ...
... while Chribba is ... well ... Chribba.

People like /c already give.

How's about we let others step up and serve?

You don't make something stand in gaming for 10+ years if it has a poor foundation.

The odd wrong step won't bring it down.

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

Confirming Chribba is our spacegod and only he decided who are the chosen ones.

We must also start sacrifising one player who has atleast 30mil SP to him every year.

i appreciate his websites and the work he puts into them

but he's not the omniscient infallible carebear godhead

this is an absolutely terrible idea

i'm sorry you're so mad about the csm the players wanted to have instead of what you wanted to have

Chribba would never be so delusional as to attempt circumvent our democratic vote in order to hand pick candidates that he would then present as people to better represent us than the very people we voted for.

As for trust. I would never mistake Chribba for an altruist but I trust him because I know that his name holds more value than all the ISK in eve. He has spendt far too much time and effort on building that name and he would not risk it for worthless in game materials that hold no real value.

The only thing in Eve that holds true value is our interaction with other people. Chribba knows that.

The game itself is just an empty shell to prop up that interaction.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

On the contrary. I voted for 3 people, 2 got in.
But that does not change the fact that the the current selection system is a disaster, where a single person with the level of integrity of Chribba would select a better representation of the demographics of the Eve playerbase than the abomination in place now.

CSM would be better if James 315 selected the members.

maybe before making a big thread you should ask chribba if he would even want to do it.

It's like being oppressed by a fascist regime vs being oppressed by corporate sponsors behind a government. I'd rather know that my suffering is keeping someone else in power rather than suspect that the government might just be very incompetent and scared. At least then the right decisions are being made for somebody who's got more invested than their pocket lining.

Chribba's ego is about the size of a very very small pebble, so he probably wouldn't.

And to the clown that pointed out all the ways Chribba could completely screw us over.... while that is true, I'd like to point out the fact that he hasn't. If a guy like Tank CEO had his finger on the button of that much power, he'd press it, regularly. Chribba is nothing like Tank. Not everyone in EVE is out to gorge themselves on carebear tears.
