Or going by the lore, you'd expect "English" speaking characters from:

  • Amarr to have Southern-USA influenced accents (slavers, religious fanatics, roughly Christian inspired)
  • Caldari to have Japanese/Korean influence (corporate influence as defined by Sony & Samsung)
  • Gallente to have French influence
  • Minmatar to have perhaps a Central European influence

Where did you ever get the idea that Gallente would have USA influenced accents?

Accents have already been created in the many EVE videos that have been done.

Also...last I checked, the show isn't a guarantee...just a possibility right now. Unless I missed something...

That was a rapid edit from "not sure if trolling or college brainwashed" Lol

What is your opinion? Are you able to contribute constructively to this discussion, or are you happy to troll and nay-say? Is your name Tony Abbott?

The Caldari would be American and the Gallente would be French Lol

I don't think the accents matter. Did anyone give a damn about Aeryn's accent in Farscape?

Aeryn wasn't human, and she was such a strong and attractive character that I figure most fans weren't really paying attention to what she was saying or how she was saying it Cool

I think its less of a matter of accents as of speaking style

Amarr should have a very formal and oratical style - think lack of contractions and an emphasis on correct forms of address combined with every political speech youve ever heard.

Caldari would be clipped and to the point - no frilly language or unneccesary statements, theres business to do so lets get on and do it type of talking.

Gallente - pretty much the polar opposite of caldari, lots of ostentatious language and grand statements.

minmatar - a polyglot of everything from native american to african and south american, basicly everywhere people are making the best out of living in a shithole rolled into one

Pirates - The Invisible Fist of Darwin

you're welcome

To be honest if you are nitpicking each sub-race would have it's cultural and accent styles. Not homogeneous to each main faction. Remember these are made up of 3 races each faction. And from a lore perspective it would depend on what each races descend from originally.

Now assuming that everyone is speaking English and subtitles aren't involved:

Amarr - Ppsh English and European accent (Italian, Slavic)

Caldari - Antipodean, South African, German, Japanese

Gallente - American, Indian Subcontinent and European (French, Spanish)

Minmatar - regional accent British and Irish plus Scandinavian accent

Different tribes etc. would give variations on this. There should probably be different writing systems and number bases etc for the factions too (see Tolkien).

Very valid point:

Amarr: Italy, Central and Eastern Europe, Northern Asia

Caldari: Antipodes, South Africa, Germany, Japan, South East Asia

Gallente: France, North and South America, Spain/Portugal, Africa apart from South, China

Minmatar: Northern Europe, West Indes, Britain and Ireland, Pacific Islands, Nepal and central Asia

I'd imagine the accents should be more like:

Amarr - Posh English with regional accents for Ni-Kunni and Khanid
Minmatar - Scottish/Irish/Australian
Caldari - American with regional variants for each bloodline
Gallente - Mixed European with French for ethnic Gallentean, Spanish for Mannar (according to Templar One), and German for Intaki?

Caldari – Bladerunner

Gallente – Battlestar Galactica

Minmatar – Mad Max

Why is everyone assigning slave ownership to an English accent? We (Britain that is, not just England) were one of the first countries to abolish slavery, much earlier than you Americans. Just 'cause we sound like we're all evil masterminds living in a volcano doesn't mean we aren't nice people. Blink

Really? That is way way off in my opinion. Amarr southern US? Are you kidding me?? I understand the parallels with religion and slavery, but the accent would not fit at all.

I think it depends on the exact race rather than the empire overall. For instance Khanid would be obviously japaense, chinese type speaking, and for true Amarr English speaking would be appropriate.

For Caldari I always imagine the as pretty much stereotypical American because of the extreme capitalism. No other nation in the world has such reverence for capitalism and military power and it was quite obvious that Caldari is based upon Americans.

Gallente, are certainly not American! They are definitely French with perhaps some european. Human rights, democracy and all that kind of stuff. Plus the French excessive flamboyant kind of lifestyle fits perfectly. (Not sure if that is the correct word)

Minmatar are obviously African origin. Are you kdding when you say european? lol

Yeahp, every sub race should have it's own speaking style. Some very interesting things could be done with this.
On top of all the suggestions so far, remember that a massive number of Minmatar live in Gallente space. 30% iirc. As well as the fact that billions of people across thousands of worlds aren't all going to speak in a similar way. Factor in dialects spoken by isolated null planet-dwellers and the development of patois mixes at every border zone, basically every new character could have a new accent and way of rolling joints.

One thing i have never been able to stand though, certain sci-fantasy characters, as well as the direst of our roleplaying furries, who speak in a lugubrious and stilted form of overly formal english. Slice me edgewise, it doesn't sound lofty, or intelligent or much like anything except a sign that the stick up their buttle has a stick up it's buttle.

Anyway...
Amarr - Southern US / Arabic / Thai sounds for asian variant Ni-Khunni

Caldari - German / Nth US / Japanese for asian variant Achura

Gallente - Belgian / all kinds of English / Chinese asian variant Jin-Mei

Minmatar - Croikey / Muuuufgah? / Korean asian variant Vherokior

Goggles. Making me look good. Making you look good.
