Gifting Character to Nephew Legal?

My nephew started to play eve with some friends of his. Found out I also play and had been asking a myriad of questions. My question to the community is can I give him one of my characters? Would it violate the EULA? There would be no financial compensation, just a straight gift to put him a couple of years ahead in SP.

You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friends nose. Unless you podded them...and collected their corpse.

If you set it up as a trade in the character bazaar for 1 isk I'd see no problem with it really. Dunno about gifts but there's not a whole lot of difference between 1 and 0.

It's not the best idea, since you'll be robbing him of one of the defining aspects of EVE.

But it's totally acceptable as far as I know, as long as you actually transfer the character, and not let him use your account.

Yes you have to do an actual character transfer and burn 2 PLEX.

If he jumps right to a high skill character he's going to get a fuckton of expensive loss mails and not learn many of the skills being underarmed and outgunned teaches. Maybe you could buy him a set of +5 implants and just help him with fittings instead? Not that I don't think you shouldn't help him but even in easy MMOs like wow if you give someone max level character they will probably never learn how to play their class properly. Leveling and waiting is part of the learning curve. You can skip it but it will be damaging in the long term.

The account holder must be older than the age of the pilot's origin date.

As long as you transfer the character, and don't share account details, it's perfectly fine.

Just use the official character transfer process (which will cost PLEX) and you'll be fine.

No, the experience of building something you can be proud of.

No, no it doesn't. You can't buy and sell characters on accounts younger than 30 days, but I buy and sell 2003 characters all the time on a 2008 account.

You may be referring to the age of the person, in which case... 10 year olds shouldn't play eve at all. 1996 is about the cutoff for IRL player start dates tbh.

If he was making a joke about the cousin being younger than the character he's getting, the oldest he could possibly be would be 10. (2013 - 2003 is 10 btw)... so in such a situation, I don't think he should quite be playing eve yet :D

I don't mean to be a party pooper, but I found myself not actually playing EVE for long periods of time while still training my account for the first two months.

After I could fly a BC and BS with T2 modules, I started actually playing. Maybe I was just anal and researched how to play correctly and saw that flying BC and BS without T2 modules for missions was actually not recommended as it was a good way to lose your ship.

Even if you have the ability to fly a T3 ship from day one, as long as you start out with frigs and destroyers and work your way up, then there is nothing wrong with that. It just means as soon as you are comfortable with one level of ship, you don't have to wait weeks to get into the next ship.

If you jump into a T3 ship and fly into low sec in the first hour of game play, then that is just dumb, but if you start out with a 20 million SP character and try each tier of ships, then there is nothing wrong with that.

Secondly, no one is going to be impressed with the ability to wait for skills. Sure, earning isk and ships can be hard work and you can be proud of that, but the skill system is nothing but you waiting around.

And if waiting around for things to happen is a skill to be proud of, then well... I don't know what to say.

Just make sure the first thing you teach him is to keep his clone up to date, because I suspect he'll get podded a few times.

Check out the character transfer wiki and info in your Account Management page:

http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Character_Transfer

And remember that only the character can change hands, not the account:

http://community.eveonline.com/support/policies/eve-eula/

"ACCOUNT TRANSFER / CHARACTER TRANSFER
You are not permitted to transfer your Account to another person. If you wish to discontinue your Account please refer to section 6. of this EULA. You may transfer a character from your Account to another account, either belonging to you or another person. This transfer option is available from the EVE Online Account Management web site https://secure.eveonline.com/ and is subject to fees and the following limitations: You may not offer to transfer characters except your own, or act as a "broker" or intermediary (for compensation or otherwise) for anyone wishing to transfer or obtain characters. The transferee will obtain all rights to your character in a single transaction, and you will retain absolutely no control or rights over the characters, items or attributes of that character. You may not transfer any characters whose attributes are, in whole or in part, developed, or which own items, objects or currency obtained or acquired, in violation of the EULA.

Any character transfers or attempted transfers not in accordance with the foregoing terms is prohibited and void, and shall not be binding on CCP. A transfer or attempted transfer of a character is entirely at the risk of the parties to such transaction. CCP is not liable to any person (whether transferor, transferee or otherwise) for any acts, omissions, statements, representations, defaults or liabilities of the parties in connection with such a transaction."

You cannot give him one of your characters but you could buy him one on the character bizarre.

Just buy him some plex on his account have him sell them and buy a better character
