I live both in null and in high sec

I have experienced both areas first hand and I must admit i do like my life in null - it is a bit more exciting and much more of a team effort than what can occur in high sec.

I have taken the time to read the dev blogs from yesterday's key note and at first i was like wow...these all look good. I am quite excited about the changes. Then I re-read and thought...wait a sec....i missed the fine print...

I fully recognize that in this game without destruction, without war and grief that it would be a giant theme park and ppl would eventually get bored and leave. Not to mention a market where nobody loses things or has to buy new stuffs - well that is no market at all.

The ore/ice rebalance that was announced yesterday is just plain bad for EvE.

Lets look at ice - Ice is the lifeblood of POS's and null/wh life. Yes you can nullbear your life away in a station in null - if your corp/alliance has one....but to get people out living among the stars we need POS's

I think most null folks and WH folks would agree that POS's need love.

In one sweeping change CCP has put POS ownership in danger - ice prices have already spiked - I seem to remember soundwave saying that the goal was to give people something to call home and to live in (he said this in the past) - now for anyone who is a casual player/small corp you can forget it. To power a POS is going to cost you a billion a month once the ice prices settle out. The massive drop in ice prices after the mack change was a god send for most players....we could go and pew pew to make some isk and buy our blocks....not have to sit and mindlessly ice mine. Now the stuff is going to be so valuable it will encourage ppl to ice mine (really CCP? you want people ice mining instead of blowing things up?)

The other change was on the ore side - tbh - i think the trit content for spod is a bit excessive - but there was a balance issue in null and spod was a complete waste before hand. But that was not the part that caught my attention....this was

We will also be making a significant change to the way hidden asteroid belts will be found by players. We are phasing out the Gravimetric signature category, and instead pilots will be able to find all Ore Sites using their ship’s built-in anomaly scanning equipment.

now i see what the overall goal was here - you wanted to encourage miners out into null - you increased value and modified some of the stations so that industry might be a "bit" more viable in null (i can assure you that those changes did nothing really) the real change would be if you finally tackled POS's and let us build our own stations (fully destroyable) and made it a bit easier on a corp level to do indy - but alas you seem to be preoccupied with creating things for the blobs and not for the individual/small corps.

As a miner in null i can assure you I am never AFK - and we already spam our d-scan like rabbits on vicodin - the only 'safety' that we had was someone showing up in local had to "actually work" to find us - note a good scanner could find us in 15-30 seconds - but they had to actually play the game and perform a task to get the proverbial pot of gold. Now anyone can enter a system - and instantly warp to the grav/ore site - no scanning....just this auto feature ... no work....just instant gratification. To me its almost bot like in its application - enter system - kill sheep -move on.

I foresee not the renaissance off indy in null but the death of it - how can i attract new ppl to null when its insta death when a neut shows up ?

I think this change more than any will ensure the end to the NRDS policies of one of EvE's oldest alliances - for now instead of seeing combat or scanner probes and detecting an enemy neutral - you now have to assume everyone is your enemy.

So...continue on CCP - give the hunters more weapons to kill the carebears....hunt the nullbears.....there are so many examples in real life of this - EvE will go the way of the Dodo bird, the northern cod - hunted to extinction.

Then what will you shoot? When nobody is left to hunt? When all of us who occasionally fight, mine and play are gone.

Just my 2 cents

Ice prices have spiked due to speculation and people not knowing exactly how the changes will affect initial expansion supply and are stocking up.

This is pretty normal in terms of how economics work and is not in anyway and indication of what prices and supply will be like once the expansion has kicked in for a while.

Freaking out about what prices are like now is just silly. Yes prices will be a bit wonky for a bit after the expansion as the ice miners figure the new system out and when people start dumping the hoards they are accumulating now. The prices will go down again. Maybe not as low as they are now but I doubt it will be crazy like now.

Heck if the numbers of people today in the ice field I occasionally mine are any indication (triple of usual) there will be mountains of the stuff hoarded and then dumped on the market post expansion.

Posting in the first ever thread created by someone or something that is extinct, and the first legacy thread ever posted about the legacy of an event which has yet to occur.
