My bowels are still quivering from the new stargate animation

It does remind me of Doctor Who.

We also did a LOT of optimisation on how the client unloads and reloads assets on jumping. So not only is it pretty, it's less load :)

what happens when the jump takes a long time due to heavy server load? does the warp-like animation just continue forever or will it break in some spectacular way? Twisted

A very lovely replacement for the bar, I just hope it still has the lovely alignment to the target system (because I found that amazing).

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

So beautiful. And I suppose that the undocking sequence will be further expanded upon as well in the future?

Did they change it so you no longer arrive 15km from the gate? Wheres the fun in that?

It's GM stuff, pay close attention to menus he uses.

Also, I hope this effect will be option, not entire replacement. Cool stuff, but sometime I just want to play plain dull space excel, without my eyes joggling.

The new effects are pretty - similar to the Tom Baker era of Dr. Who's time tunnel opening.

I am not using a high end computer by today's standards. But watching myself currently traveling from system to system, I notice that when I jump through a gate, I get a momentary black screen that if you blink, then you miss it delay while the background universal screen appears. On top of that overlay I get the loading screen that is barely a blip before I am in the next system.

Over the years, I have noticed that other players will jump through a gate before me, but I seem to appear before them on the other side. Perhaps my high end cable connection helps in this regard, but for the most part I have gotten more lag updating market orders than changing systems.

Still a pretty effect that makes the game appear a bit more seamless.

I love the new stargate animations, they are freaking cool. Was wondering if these are going to be available for wormholes as well. Its been a long time since wormhole's got anything. Attack BCs and the Venture dont count as those arent WH improvements. They are game improvements that also improved wormholes.

The new stargate animations are kick ass.

I proposed this 11 months ago:
Quote:
Is it possible to have seamless interstellar travel? The current system reminds a bit of zoning in Everquest back in 1999.

My idea is, basically, when you jump at a stargate, instead of the bubble that swallows your ship and the stargate shooting you in a beam of light toward another system (zoning), the stargate opens a warp tunnel that you align to and enter automatically after selecting jump.

The mechanics being pretty much identical as travel within a star system, just scaled up to light years or fractions of a light year per second. Travel speed could be proportionate to ships' travel speeds in AU/s.

I demand royalties of 10 ISK for every jump that's made! :)

Send a petition to CCP Legal team.

Then prepare to fight with lawyers for ten years.

You might be joined by other (not lawyers) undead from WoD by then ...

Will we also see something simular when using wormholes and jump drives/bridges?
That would be awsome as well

The new effect is nice and all, but during a long trip it sure seems like it would get disorienting and repetitive.

An option to turn it off (and replace with a simple black screen) would be very welcome. I also have some concerns about load time in high-lag situations, but too early to tell

We all hate loading bars. And the solution was to put an epic jumping effect in. Well Done CCP, I love it. Big smile

It is possibly the most awesome animation....ever...

I plan on spending at least one day after launch hopping back and forth through a stargate while simultaneously requiring lots of clean pairs of pants.

It's an awesome animation, don't get me wrong, but his point is valid.

EVE players... always amazing how they can find something to whine about in everything. You could hand them a 100$ note and they would complain about how it's folded.

seconding this. just add a clip of morgan freeman saying 'through the wormhole' when we jump, at the very least
