It sounds like lowsec might not be the right fit for you. With low experience and T1 fits, viable targets are slim. And if you shoot everything you see, you'll end up dying 95% of the time without learning much. You'll need T2 fits if you want to actually kill someone competent.

Is there a reason you don't look at Red v Blue? The great thing about RvB is that you don't have to worry about sec status or getting podded. There are also a lot of low SP chars flying around T1 fits learning too, so there will probably be more viable targets in RvB. Then once you get a handle on combat mechanics and fittings, you can go to lowsec to work on hunting/dscan skills. (If that's your fancy.)

this is going to be my goal when i get in game tonight.

I fit the other ships i bought friday. Today my goal is to find some pvp in low sec.

I would like to find a corp, but im wary as i've always rejoined and gotten into very small corps. The eventuality turned into me drone afk'ing. If people do have suggestions on any large pvp corps willing to take a unskilled but quick learning pilot feel free to drop a plug for them.

the other thing is that , isk will be hard to come by as i've read that in pvp life you take huge hits to status making it hard to really do anything of value and pirating is very hit or miss in making money.

i have another character on another account, was thinking of just making an exploration character, then trying industry if i dont like moving on down the road trying the money makers other than missioning.

Is it possible to make enough isk as a new player to support my sub? the resub is only 4.95 so no biggy but i'd like to make the money to afford to pay for my account within the first month.

unless you get really lucky on a kill (i.e. someone was taking some EXPENSIVE shinies through somewhere and you have the good fortune to scoop them after killing the guy), you're not going to be able to pay for your account at all with ISK for the first few months of gameplay. full stop, end of story.

if you get "good" at piracy, you can always start ransoming the other guy --> if you start doing this ALWAYS honour the ransom (your name will get around). All it takes is one instance of not honouring the ransom, and people willing to pay will quickly dry up.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Its such a shame that there is no easier method for new players like this to get into pvp, which lets face it is where the real fun is.

Factional Warfare should be this place.

All they need is:

1) a proper way of limiting fights so that newbies can contribute properly.

(They tried to do this with small plexes but messed it up by allowing faction frigates in)

2) A way of this pvp to generate enough isk to be self- sustaining.

It really cant be that hard..... can it?

the more i read about exploration the more interesting it sounds?

can it be dangerous? ie can you explore in low sec with higher reward?

The more dangerous the space, the better the exploration rewards. I know young players who became billionaires thanks to some luck and lowsec exploration. One thing worth noting is that the income is not steady.

Hey Tempus,

Your attitude to the monotony of highsec mission running and not knowing what the heck you are doing is an excellent start!

I know you have said that you have read an endless amount of material, but re: getting into lowsec, killing stuff and doing some basic and reasonably profitable lowsec exploration - check my signature for links to sets of brief information which you might find useful as a starting point. In addition, I would really suggest checking youtube for d-scan guides and the like - nothing like seeing it in action and then trying it for yourself to learn.

Please ignore the people above who say that with a T1 fit frigate and low skills you cannot solo-kill anyone. Firstly its a load of rubbish and secondly even if you die continuously how are you ever going to learn the necessary skills to killing people without jumping in the deep end? T2 mods and 100 mil SP doesn't make a good pilot. Experience does.

Don't be afraid of the fish in the sharkpool.

thank you for the links.

I am going to try to begin a low sec exploration career i beleive. I hav two accounts. it was 4.95 for the renewal.

i am a bit baffled on which character to advance in a life of exploration and crime though.

my main has always been

http://eveboard.com/pilot/tempus_deathbringer

i also have my alt

http://eveboard.com/pilot/taconight

i resubbed the alt since it was my salvager before and actually ahd a substantial amount of isk on it.

The hard part i have atm is , hwo simple my understanding is. It's really quite time consuming to plan out a route, of where im going and what im going to do, fit ships etc. The corps that i have been invited to have all been really great people but very small. I tried rvb last time i subbed and it really just felt like a cluster of people shooting eachother in frigs. I could give it a whirl again but i felt like playing with people in voice chat would really progress me alot quicker through the game as opposed to team deathmatch in red vs blue. I'd like to pvp for a purpose , and also learn strategies as well.

my hardest part now is to get motivated, when i log in i seem to get distracted from the goal, with skills, fitting, the am i redy for this, where do i go, how do i do it type stuff.

im going to try to do some low sec roaming and exploration tonight, following the 900 pages of guides i've read.

Hey, glad you found something that sounds interesting to you! I hope this is going to be less boring that running missions.

Just watch out when you're in low-sec, apparently there are pirates around Pirate

i just found the mail button , so thank you guys for all the replies so far. The forums themselves have been giving me a nudge in my arse to get moving and i appreciate it.

Screw lowsec, it is a barren waste land. Look into NPC nullsec. Curse, Syndicate, or Venal are all good.

Even though I have been playing for about 2 years, I rarely escaped highsec and when I did it was simply to make a quick jump.

My question though WarFireV is how would you go about finding NPC losec? I, like Tempus am ready to venture out and it sounds at least like NPC losec would be rad. Are those systems actually classified as NPC losec?

...curious

ALL Lowsec is "NPC" (i.e. 0.1 to 0.4 sec status).

NPC NULLSEC is non-sov nullsec (Venal, Syndicate, Outer Ring, Curse, etc)

NPC nullsec is 0.0 security systems that are owned by NPC corps so there is no sov warfare. Therefore you can dock in most of the stations without the risk of people taking the station you live out of.

There are two types of NPC nullsec. Whole region and partial region.

All of the whole regions are: Curse, Syndicate, GreatWildland, Stain, Venal, Outar Ring. If you looking into doing PvP I would check out Curse. Its the best spot for PvP, but it also is the home of some of the best PvPers in Eve aka Darkside.

Stain is another option, it is the biggest nullsec region in the game so it is possible to hind from the larger groups that live there. The biggest problem you will have with Stain is that it has no connection with lowsec/highsec so you will have to cross conquerable space in order to get there.

There are also a few regions that are part conquerable and part unconquerable, while it is possible to live in these parts of the region I would not recommend it for someone new since you will be having to deal with the people who own the conquerable part on a daily bases.

If you wanna fly a rifter this is pretty decent:

[Rifter, PvP]
Damage Control II
200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
Small Armor Repairer II

1MN Afterburner II
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator

150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
E5 Prototype Energy Vampire

Small Projectile Burst Aerator I
Small Projectile Ambit Extension I
Small Projectile Ambit Extension I

You can downgrade everything except the guns to T1 and still get good performance - I flew it for weeks before I got T2. Always use faction ammo for more damage. Don't carry more than 1-2 reloads of ammo to minimize the cost when you go boom. Read wensley's rifter guide and also the piracy guide by agony. Good luck and hope to see you in low sec soon! EDIT: train thermo dynamics.

i created another thread on exploration but this is where i started so , wanted to really say thanks and apologize. I got a mail from someone tipping me off that everyone mailing me had to spend 3k isk to do it. I didnt know, so sorry about that.

Updating where i left off. I've met some great people helping me get set up for incursions, low sec exploration etc.

I still havent had my chance at some real pvp yet but the game is turning into a different path. I pvp'd in rvb on some alts a bit, it's okay and helps me with some knowledge of what ships are capable of and how to effectively fight certain ships.

Im still anxious to get out into low/null sec in some of my ships and get into some skirmishes. I don't want to go to these areas with no goal. So i decided to invest in exploration, that way im there with a purpose and its dangerous.

I spent last night learning how to scan , and set my overview up properly. All in all, i think im moving in a better direction.
