"PAY ISK : RECEIVE SEC", my favourite line in the slides from Fanfest.

Looks like the pre-Retribution comments about the possibility of certain pirate tags being traded for security status were solid and that this feature may even make it into Odyssey. Check this link out for a writeup of the lowsec talk:

Great news and about time. I hate grinding. What do you reckon? I imagine there will be some highsec tears about this.

There already has been some tears about it from the less open minded highsec players. As a highseccer myself though, I welcome it. Will be nice to have the afk types that are so common in highsec to be woken up.

Scam my subscription fees, gank-ships AND my sec status?

Yes please.

They will need to put a limit per period on this, like neural remaps.
Otherwise this will get exploited into oblivion and the ganks in hisec would just be lulz.

Doubt it. From the presentation he seemed more concerned with overall balance (i.e. SOMEONE has done the grind) rather than individual pilot balance. As you'd know it is possible to gank in high sec with a -10 status. Needs preparation and is annoying but it is possible.

A nice touch that the tags can only be redeemed (and only found?) in lowsec.

i've never seen a ganker in high sec stop ganking because of sec status, they just get better about doing their ganking.

Agree, but it takes much more time and hassle now than it would be with that mechanic.

Same here (but only from my small 'pre-patch play fund'). I suspect that many were doing the same. The reference to stockpiles of existing tags and balance was interesting.

I actually thought there would be a new exploration site. Belts is a bit uninspired.

I'm curious as to the spawn rate of the rats in question. Mining a day away, you'll see 1, maybe 2 faction spawns. Mind you that is hi sec, but I don't recall null being much better. Are we looking at tags that cost 50k isk or 50 mil or more? Also, will the rats potentially drop other loot making them prizes that are hunted or will they be things that trickle into the economy because no one cares?

Also, on a side note... Changing the sec gain cycle to 5 minutes improved the sec gain for mission runners. I could complete an average level 4 in 15-30 (standard cruise raven, not a pimped fit). That woukd be 1 system, so at most 2 sec status bumps. With the new system, it will be 3-6 bumps in the same time frame.

So really, it looks like a slow down for nul/low residents with a balance of being able to buy sec, and a gain for hi sec.

I just wonder if the trade in stations will become perma camped.

Spawn rate will be tweaked to get the desired balance from all accounts. They have previously said it will be expensive, though. I really hope they are worth hunting specifically. It would be good to see more lowsec traffic.

Other drops and bounties will apparently be unchanged for these rats.

This is a fantastic way of getting people "Belt ratting" in lowsec. An absolute +1 for lowsec content.
