Low sec exploration ship

I have been exploring low sec radar and mag sites but I find my destroyers tank isn't strong enough for when 10 or so rats turn up.

Does anyone know an all in one Caldari low sec exploration ship fit, I was hoping to also equip a cloak to it as well as the probes etc.

Literally anything as long as you know the cloak microwarp drive trick.


If you want to rat then you need a fast align ship to a safe stop.

Sadly with Caldari you don't get many utility slots without giving up alot, the Vexor and Arbitrator are the best all-in-one lowsec exploration Cruisers by virtue of them being droneboats and thus very flexible with slots. Neither the Caracal nor the Moa get a utility high, and you will usually need 3 for cloak/salvager/probe launcher which severely gimps your dps. The Osprey doesn't get any useful bonus and can only carry 4 light drones so it's maybe useable but quite bad, while the Blackbird has no drones, and no dps, lots of mids for tank and equipment though.

Basically, if you can use T2 medium drones just train up the Vexor/Arbitrator, it doesn't take long. If you can't, look into the Ferox/Drake, even then you're giving up at the very least 1 weapon for probe launcher/cloak and the Vex/Arbi would actually be better.

I have a drake but it would suck to lose that in low sec, guess risk is half the fun :P

In the mean time I will train up for a vexor and tech 2 drones thanks for the tips.

Get in a Pilgrim? With very good drone skills and decent fitting you'll be able to do DED 6/10's

Which ones? Blood and Sansha are out because you won't break the overseers' tank. Serpentis... No. Just no. You also won't break that tank but you'll never get far enough to have to worry about it.

The only way I can imagine this working is with "range-taking" tbh. But yeah, I'm not really good, so any tips on doing non- radars and mags in low with it?

That said, I'm afraid that drone aggro and EWar will be a major PITA to deal with in any case.

Vexor and Arbitrator works fine for low sec, Pilgirm is nice because its warp cloaked ability and a slightly better tank, howver I don't think is good enough for harder plexes.

Once you get used to low sec, learn the tricks and get more isk you could try the Myrmidon.

Get good drone skills, you will find it useful for many ships and diferent situations. Drone boats are among the best ships for exploration.

While not pure caldari, Gila works very well for an all in one exploration ship.

Im thinking of a very similar build accept with salvage drones I can skip salvage beam and put drone link instead for increased range.

Salvage drones can't open cans in mag sites. But if that's not a loss to you, go for it.

it also works really well as a gank-magnet due to the price.

If you go to lowsex to do PVE,expect to be ganked, even if you go in a rifter, lowsec s not nullsec, we do PVP there and you know, we blow ships...

I was using a Loki for exploration. It was fitted for WH but I found I could have a lot of fun in lowsec. Handles the rats easy as and when people turn up on the site you can bash them around for funnies.

As for lowsec exploration ships, the Gila is great if you can afford it, but you need decent Gallente cruiser skill, since that's the one that improves your drone damage output, and if you have Gallente cruiser at 4 or 5 you're probably better off with the Vexor or a Proteus.

Also remember that T3 cruisers have the scanning subsystem that gives a hefty bonus on scan strength, and the covert ops subsystem for dodging pirate scum.

Gila is great, but if you're getting skiddish about losing a Drake, the Gila is one step to far.

quite easy to get there.

Cyclone has 2 usitlity slots, larger drone bay than Draken, selectable damge and it's faster.



Aside from that you seem quite new to this, untill you have the isk to lose ships like the Gila, you could just find a low sec station, get a buzzard, scan down site's and switch to a ship fitted to run the site.

keeps you from having stuff fitted you don't need witch make your ship stronger against the rats.

when you have the skill to fly a Gila, Tengu or Protheus you can always go back to the all in one set up.

I am in the same boat as you atm, I am about to try some low sec exploration. Training Tengu for this purpose, my plan is to fly an all-in-one setup for Radar and Mag and dock and refit to combat fit for DEDs and Unrated. I am curious about upcoming exploration changes in Oddyssey tho, those could change a lot of things. If I were you, I would make a final decission for a ship and its fit after we get more info about revamped exploration, hopefully during fanfest?

as an allround exploiration ship the Tengu isn't the best choice, it can be done but it will be expensive, faction mods and Implants are needed.

Mainly because the Tengu Covert-ops set up leaves you with very low DPS remove a high for a probe launcher and a salvager and it will be very low.

with CN BCU's, rof and Damage implants or range implants when using hams, you can solve this.


But all in all a Protheus does it better and easier.
