Hey everyone, newbie here, I played a long long time ago but never got far, and am looking to give it another try! I'm done with the initial tutorial and have a decent feel for the general mechanics of the game. But I'm looking to see what the best way of starting out is, I'm probably gonna want to get into the PVP aspect of the game, and join a good guild for it, where do I start? And who do I join?

Thanks,

Lolmia

P.S.

Must I do all of the starter contractors?!

You don't have to do all of the starter agents but you should. It's easy ISK. Then go do the sisters of eve epic arc...more easy ISK. Then if you want to pvp just start now. Don't wait for skills. Don't wait till you've built up a kitty. Just do it. Check the recruitment forums for a pvp corp that is willing to take in noobs and go. RvB, brave newbies inc, many others that I can't think of which hold pvp classes.

Welcome back & feel free to swing through gademan for a free lesson! Twisted

What I'd recommend is try a bunch of different things, and do more of what you enjoy.

Several PvP corps that take newbies have been pointed out - you could also do the initial missions, collect a pile of fitted cheap frigates out and sign up in Faction Warfare.

Once all your ships are blown up, leave faction warfare, cash in all your Loyalty Points you got for orbiting buttons, taking and holding plexes and maybe even for blowing people up for things you can sell for cash, buy another pile of frigates and do it again.

By "ACTUAL PvP" he means 'meaningless sparring between people who are actually on the same team'. For the non-consensual PvP you can only get in EVE, New Order all the way.

Highsec is owned by players now. Systems 0.5-1.0 are New Order Territory. All miners and other residents of Highsec must obey The Code. Mining without a permit is dangerous and harmful to the EVE community. See www.MinerBumping.com

The "best way" to start out is to find out what you like to do in the game and do it. If that means PVP, then you may want to look at what ship type you'd like to fly, weapons to use, and skills necessary to use them. There are tons of resources that can be found by googling of skill plans, income to support PVP, etc.

a/ Didn't believe you were allowed to recruit in the newb forum.
b/ Learning PvP by ganking miners in high sec? Seriously?

Seriously that's as much about learning PvP as shooting fish in a glass bowl is about hunting. Yes you kill stuff, yes that's the end of it. Yes, you will be embarrased beyond belief if you fail.

There are corps out there that teach you serious pvp. RvB is one place to start. Heck even EVE Uni has more profitable pvp classes.

RvB is more PvP then New Order.

They can only shoot those who dont shoot back.

RvB has GankedP

Or just live out of low / null.

But ganking miners is NOT PvP, it IS fun though

So what do you learn about pvp from shooting miners? How to gank fit thrashers? How will this help you when they shoot back?
For that matters how is shooting unsuspecting high sec miners "fun"? Never figured that one out either to be quite honest.

Out of here before the thread gets ugly and locked.

J'Poll gives great advice, follow what they say.

Some more helpful advice to you is knowing that EVE isn't like other games in regard to PVP. There are mulititudes of ways to engage in combat in the game. Some call ganking (kiling unprovoked) miners and starter players PVP. Others consider small scale squad engagements PVP especially in low sec, while those in SOV space often engage in epic battles where hundreds of players in each fleet face off against one another where fleet doctrines and required fittings are cycled as alliances and empires attempt to hold or take space.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that RvB, EveUni, or specific corporations are the kings of combat. It's simply not true, because if it were i'd have to say that honor would likely fall upon Rooks and Kings as i've seen many a larger fleet get spanked very hard to those guys.

TL;DR

Just pick a corp of friendly folks, pvp will find you or you will find it :)

RnK are what I class as the top when it comes to PvP.
Same with Agony and Noir they too can win even when hopelessly outgunned.

RnK are great guys. Even if they've shot at me from time to time. Big smile
Noir., only seen them hide when they've not judged themselves able to win by obvious margins - bit disappointed actually.

Lesson 1: People have dumb, self aggrandizing opinions about what constitutes PVP.

RvB, which is for the most part most easily described as "Space paintball" except with real bullets instead of paint is as much a type of PVP as ganking and bumping miners is.

The only difference is in how the people involved are affected by the part where spaceships blow up. Your decision on what type of PVP you do should be colored by how you want the people you blow up to react to being blown up, if you want them to be filled with indignant rage and hatred for you then you probably don't want to join the PVP group where the majority of the opposition are willing participants who signed up specifically to shoot at people who they know intend to shoot back . At the same time if you want to shoot at people who have a positive attitude to getting blown up you probably don't want to be awoxing mission runners.

Apples and oranges, but they are both types of fruit.

Well said Vimsey.

As for the tired old "they only shoot those who don't shoot back" nonsense, I would link you the killmails of many armed tornadoes, scorpions, nagas, etc that we've taken down while they were trying to defend the miners, but that's not allowed in this forum. I'm sure you can find our killboard if you set your mind to it.

Regardless, there's nothing stopping them from shooting back.

One minute you go on about bumping mining ships and shooting them, the next you mention armed tornados .... With a straight face Roll I would prefer paintball to make believe pvp involving shooting mining barges. There is a reason null sec pvp corps laugh at high sec gankers.

This actually sounds more like Bully v Usually defenseless target who can only try to live long enough for Concord to save him.

If thats what you deem PvP you can keep it.

People define PVP differently. But there's also the question: what sort of person do you want to be within this game?

Do you want to be an extortionist and a schoolyard bully? Because that's a perfectly viable option in this game.

Do you want to learn how to handle a situation where you find yourself outgunned and outmanned, without the intricacies of hisec rules being gamed in your favor?

Do you want to learn about small-craft combat tactics? Or about gang warfare?

Do you want to learn about the much-derided industrial side of the game, which enables so many players to pay for the ships they risk in combat?

Do you want to learn about other ways to play the game, to liven up your experience?

Come to think of it, that's probably one reason that recruiting in the New Players forum is against the rules: if you jump at the first offer without learning the various ways to play the game, you can all too easily end up trapped.

I, for one, tried a number of play styles as I was learning the game. I vary my play depending on my mood. And I run with a bunch of fellow players who do the same.

It's quite rewarding.
