Interesting read to hear some of the old vets perspective on Eve.

Earth and Beyond, was that the game were you created your spaceship at the character select screen? I think I remember playing that for a month or so and then it was discontinued. Was a really horrible game compared to Eve to be honest if I am remembering it correctly.

Yes at character creation you were able to customize different aspects of the ship your class got assigned.
customize parts of the model like wings, engines, reactor, color, metallic glows, logo, name.

EnB targeted a different audience, aka it was not a Sandbox like EVE.
Taking I played from 2nd beta phase till sunset I can't confirm it was a horrible game.
Sure it was rather simple compared to today's MMO's but it had a great community.

Thanks. Yes I remember playing the game now. The graphics were really nice which is what attracted me to it. But like you say it was a very simple game compared to Eve. It's funny because I had completely forgotten it until you mentioned it in your interview. Thanks for bringing back some old memories. :)

He said it was 2003.05.15 14:26:00 in the interview, at least for that character. This one is from 2003.05.15 12:27:00 Smile I had to wait for almost two weeks until it was sold in any stores around here.

Your memory sucks P Eve's publisher Simon & Schuster (who later dropped out of the computer game business) had a deal with Game or one of those chains so they where the only ones who got to sell Eve in Europe for the first couple of weeks. At the time they only had stores in the UK. One Danish gaming store that I don't remember the name of bought boxes from somewhere and sold them. They could also mail you the serial code so you could log in and use the updated beta client.

Then someone realised it was a **** idea and it was released all over.

About-ish.

I am impressed about the manual, most of those are probably well beyond readability by now!

The store was called "Betafon" (it sadly closed around a year ago).
I was in fact the one who alerted them, to get them to get the game (which ended up being a week late)
(still have the mail - timestamp is 2002.08.22 P)
