Locking + scramming fail

Hey!

I don't know if this issue fits in here or not, but it's pretty annoying.

I heard from lots of guys (and experienced myself) the following issue:

After decloaking or dropping out of warp sometimes if you lock and try to tackle a ship, the scram/disruptor/web won't activate.

Yes, first I'm always aligining the target.

Example:

A raven warped to a customs office. I warped on him an 10kms, spammed align, locked him (scram/web already flashing).

I LOCKED HIM for 2 secs, scram/web didn't activate, after that 2 secs, locking dropped. (Tried to activate the scram/web manually but nothing...) It was a faction scram and web with 20km/18km range, so he was in range.

I locked him again but ofc before I activated the scram/web maually he warped...

I had time to lock him again, so at the first time he wasn't at warp speed, and I was aligning him, so what's up?

Lag? Module fail? Other issues?

Should be fixed, because I think Im not the only one who lost targets because of this.

Anyone else experiencing this?

After having this happening to me a couple times i finally did a search to see if it was a known issue. First i believe locking failed because they got in warp just in time, but then they get lock and im left behind on dps race.

this is confirming what i am claiming for about 2 month on this forum: there are lag issue in pic time:

I'm pretty sure it's a lag issue. I once went through a gate camp in an interceptor and waited in cloak a bit too long, but I was very quick to begin maneuvering toward the gate immediately after my ship showed its first signs of de-cloaking. Apparently my client received word I was de-cloaking later than everyone else, because within the 0.3 second timeframe between beginning to de-cloak and me clicking the approach button, I had already become locked and pointed by a battlecruiser. My client had to have received word at least a full second late. And when I watch the way operations happen in EVE, it is extremely common for things to appear out of order, separated by sometimes very long gaps--like weapons fire especially. The time between when you see the HP go down on the icon and when the damage number pops up, the time between when you see your mail icon blink and when your capsule gets destroyed, the time between when you finish locking a target and when you become able to shoot it, or the time between when a target warps or dies, when it breaks your lock/disallows locking, and when you see it explode.

exactly, and it is easier to notice this when this allow ppl to warp in cases they should in no way be able to.

the trick is that, when this happen, most ppl would assume that the target was stabbed, since it was pointed and still managed to warp out, but lately (since december update in fact), we noticed a big increase in those stabbed ship.

so, as any pirate would do, we took mesures, and a few of us started to use hictors. to no avail on some pilots

while many ship are stabbed (more than before), wich would explain why some are able to escape, some are not (happen we catch him next gate with another team, no station in system so no fit change), or some escape hictors (wich is, according to game mechanics, impossible when in range)

the opposite is also true, i managed to escape a gate camp while i should have lost my ship.

was with a -9 toon, in armor rifter and jumped a lowsec gate
on the other side, a few cruisers and a stiletto
i still tried to warp, but knew there was no way i could make it, and indeed, stiletto rushed me and pointed me in no time (cf the message "XXX wrp scrambled you" etc... and.......i warped Oo

i was not stabbed and he was close enought ( 11km, and a rupture had also time to lock and fire at me)
he pointed me, the speed was around 40-50% of warp speed.

IF the game mechanics would have worked as intended, my rifter was dead

1- i know what ECM looks like, and it is NOT ecm

2- i happen with ship that have no ecm (because either they cannot fit anything, like shuttle, or because we blew em up next gate, and ship had no ECM)

3- when they manage to warp out, it is in a very short time frame, so ECM is not possible because A) i'm out of range from burst B) they have no drones or doesn't use em c) they don't even lock back before warping

i use a 3* seboed phobos, it locks pretty fast but the issue is not that i cannot lock, the issue is that i either cannot activate modules, modules require to be clicked 2-3 times to activate, or modules activate but are to no effect ( i point him, take sentrys / SS hit etc..., am at rang BUT he warp out (yesterday again, prorator on a gate, my phobos pointed him, took sentrys / scramble notifi / ss hit etc.., and he warped out. my range is 28Km and i was at 0 at gate)

ECM cannot explain all those issues, my warpsquad are not recieved because of ECM?

This has a happened to me a few times in the last week or so. The last time it was a Scorpion Navy Issue, I had him locked, was less that 10k away with my faction scram overloaded and approaching him. Scram would not activate for at least 5 seconds of me repetitively trying to activate it, by which time he had warped. Total bullshit.

did this happened to you upon exiting warp?

cause there is a 5 seconds hidden delay between the moment you land from warp, and the moment you can initiate a lock (you are already lockable during those 5 seconds, FCs and logi LOVE this timer so much....Roll)

last week, i came with my fleet to reinforce another fleet of ours, when landing, logis already on field and ennemy was abble to lock me, but the logi i had on my own fleet was unable to lock me, and all the ships in my squad were unable to lock anything for those 5 sec.... amazing, almost lost a ship due to ****** mechanics implemntation

also i noted 2 strange thing while messing around with a corpmate:

i was flying my 3* sebo phobos and locked him (he was flying a raven)

according to evehq, i am supposed to lock him in around 1 sec

now, i locked him, unlocked him several time in a row (like 20 or 30 time)

lock time range from 1 sec to 5 sec

no changes involved during the process, only us in fleet (no fleet bonus alteration), no module toggling (to not alter my scan res or his sig radius), both ship at 0m/s

after that, i tried locking him, while having my infini point pre-activated.
lock time still widely varies, and surprise, any single time, the point activate 1 seconde after lock being completed !!!.

now, i have asked a few corpmate to run the very same test, they come to the same conclusion, whatever ship they use, lock time is not consistent, and any pre-activated module will not activate upon locking,but with a 1sec delay

i encourage ppl to do the same test (it's pretty simple and fast to achieve), and take the conclusion themselve (also posting them here could be a good thing to make CCP aware of this)


all this explain WHY so many ppl are able to lock things but points never land, provided the target warps within the 1 sec between lock complete and point activation

we need CCP to adress this ASAP, there are too many issues at the moment, making pvp more a matter of luck than anything else, i'm lucky not being left behind when FC warp squad, i'm lucky if i can point something, i'm lucky if i am not stuck on gate.

worst thing; when something like that happen, and a ship loss occurs, good luck petitioning it, all the answer you will have is the same as usual: "logs doesn't show any abnormal behaviour (yes, it is normal that you were stuck fully aligned "warping" for 5 secondes, yes it is normal that only half your squad, which is all on same grid, received the warpsquad, etc....)

Ya, I had just landed from warp at the time. This issue has to be addressed. This is a massive issue if everyone engaging in pvp is experiencing inconsistent lock times.

Actually I'm so annoyed about this issue, as my main activity in eve right now is wardeccing in hisec, I'm losing golden kills to it.
Fix it. ALso it may not be surprising to most but I can't log in to eve right now.

There's still a bug with this, i missed a iteron today because of it and nearly missed an apoc 5 days ago (i had to lock it twice to put a scram on it). I just petitionned about this i already now the answer considering lack of answer here.

I suspect there's a problem with activating a module while locking but couldn't reproduce it with one of my alt.


Some information that may help the debug process
I play with four account (with separated cache folders, symlink) on four screen (windowed), i got plenty of ram 16gig, i5 2500k, 128 gb c300 SSD (cache is stored on it),2* 6950 2gb in crossfire (no eyefinity) and no problem with my dsl connection.

if necessary i will records every fight to prove that there's an issue with this.

Edit: I now recall similar problem using a 2x sebo phobos 3 or 4 months ago
