I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

WHICH Dune novels ? The original few by Frank Herbert, or the many others in the "expanded universe" ?

Originals are superb, expanded universe, I only ended up liking Butlerian Jihad for background completionism ,rest were kinda ok ... the Revered Mothers versus Honored Matres portrayed wars were fun, I must admit, but sex with genetically engineered furries was too much.

As a sidenote I am waiting for the whole series to be on torrent in hd from beginning to end so I can watch in a couple weeks like I did with BSG. I hate this cliffhanger crap, which I learned to loathe when I watched the batman tv series, I wanted to see what happened to BATMAN man! making me wait days or weeks was awful.

That crap traumatizes children you know?

The Novels were weak. No offense intended, but I feel like every American novel I pickup the author has the TV/Film adaptation in mind and writes the characters and their actions in this way. Same with Honor Harrington, characters with a habit or an action for a visual cue with the camera more than character development.

Yeah, but I don't think the TV/film adaptation part is premeditated. It's just a lot of us have become only semi-literate in the past few years. We learn more about storytelling from Hollywood and TV than from the printed word. An SF or fantasy book is just a movie that's written out in language format. Ugh

What's a TV? Sounds like something you catch after a very good night in certain parts of Thailand. But I have heard you can watch shows while on the computer itself. And if you need a hookup, "I know a guy".

Everything after the first book, Dune, is on a scale from terrible to worse. Going from a decent space-opera in the first book to a weird metaphysical tale that just gets weirder and worse with each book that follows.

As bad as David Lynch's Dune is, it is good in comparison to the books.

I kill kittens, and puppies and bunnies. I maim toddlers and teens and then more.
