WTF, kinda game is this ?

It's a brutal, unforgiving, free-for-all where virtually anything goes.

I kind of cringe whenever I see Eve described this way.

Dog fights (Michael Vick, woofwoof dog fights, not space-plane pewpewpew dog fights) are brutal. This is just a video game. It's harder than most other games in the genre, and the rules allow for a lot more hostility between players. It has some fairly complex systems that are not especially intuitive.

But brutal? That's a bit much.

Well EVE is the only game so far where people actually go to their enemies house and cut the power lines =)

Pretty sure I've read about some stabbings (and other assorted felonious behavior) being committed over games like Runescape and assorted "Eastern" MMOs. Crazy, obsessive neckbeards know no virtual borders.

Welcome to New Eden, here are our rules:

1. Adapt or Die. This cannot be stressed enough. Learn it. Live it. Love it.

2. Do not under any circumstance use what you cannot afford to lose. If you do it anyways, you are taking a big risk and CCP will just point and laugh at you with the rest of the community. Not every game you play needs a proto suit.

3. If it's too good to be true, it's probably a scam. Scams have been a common occurrence since Eve Online began and there is no doubt Dust can see this happening already. If you fall for a scam, it's not CCP's fault nor that of the community. You were just too stupid to do your research before falling for it. Again, you will be laughed at. Oh, and scams are allowed in the game.

4. Do not underestimate the organizational capacity of the inhabitants of New Eden (in both Eve and Dust). You will be surprised and amazed at what this community can do already. Yeah, we love New Eden that much. We even have the capacity to burn our own economy if we want. The last time anyone did that, CCP just stood by and ate popcorn while the carebears cried for help. Cry me a river, Justin Timberlake. Cry me a river.

5. Do not trust anyone but yourself. It's not a matter of if you'll get back stabbed. It's only a matter of when. When you do get back stabbed, pray that you are ready by then.

6. Skill Points mean nothing if the user doesn't know what he's doing.

If you can't accept them, leave, you won't be missed. Otherwise, ask for help in a way that doesn't make you sound like an idiot. You're new so i'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Although not a help chat channel, you may want to join the EVE University public channel E-UNI, where you can go for advice. The channel is often populated by veterans that just like helping people. Click on the chat bubble on the chat window to select the channel.

Also note that all rookie ships (Impairor, Velator, Ibis, Reaper), can use 1 drone. Quite helpful to start with a Hobgoblin I. Earn enough ISK killing asteroid belt NPC rats so you can buy a real combat frigate for security division missions,

The Venture is a very tough ship when fitted with a Medium Shield Extender I (or higher meta level) and a Adaptive Invulnerability Field I (or higher meta level), and of course some Hobgoblin I drones. You can easily do level 1 combat missions in a Venture, but you are really better off using a combat frigate (they typically feature a bonus to weapons).

+1. This should be shown and acknowledged with at least two 'Are you sure you read it?' before the install can begin.

OP, Welcome to New Eden. It is harsh, but it is also fun and ultimately only space pixels. Don't get attached to anything and you'll fly much happier.

If you join a decent corp that isn't complete garbage you they should dump T1 frigates and Destroyers on you for free.

Good luck finding one that isn't garbage.
