Blueprints:
Material efficiency (ME) is important, production efficiency (PE) is not that important.
Use sites like http://zofu.no-ip.de/bpo or http://www.fuzzwork.co.uk/blueprints/ to find ideal ME research levels.

Skills to research blueprints:
Science
Metallurgy
Research

For t2 manufacturing and invention you basically need the relevant science skills to at least 3 and some items will need random stuff like electronics V.

If you plan for a pos, just need anchoring 3.

Might want to train a few market skills as well since using buy and sell orders will increase profit margins.

I asked same question my post is the second one. Very helpful all skills, how to make stuff advice. Just brilliant.

I've started getting into Indy make profits but slowly, nothin else you can really expect but join manufacturing channel in game. Some absolute stunners in that channel. Spoke to some for hours and helped you, even with simpiliest matters. Some advice what to sell in my region.

Now i need to start planning bigger.

Production Efficiency 5 is a MUST, any extra materials used is less profit (if any profit) for you.

Industry 5 (nevermind 3) it's less than a week of training to get it to 5, the less time you spend building something the better, it has 2 benefits.
Less time paying for manufacturing slots (unless you're producing in an array which I doubt since you're just starting off)
More units can be built in the same time, so you can make more profit.

That takes me to Blueprint Research - yes it's a pain in the backside getting empire or even 'safeish' low-sec research, but it's necessary, levels are up to you, for high volume items like ammo, they don't take as much research to get them up to their optimum, ships are nigh on impossible to get to their theoretical max ML research.
Don't discount PE research as a waste of time, it goes back to less time to build, and generally PE research slots are easier to get than ML slots.

Also, don't expect to make huge profits straight away, start small and build your collection of blueprints up, consider buying them ready researched off contracts (but make sure you know exactly what you're getting, and don't get BPO and BPC mixed up - it's specified quite clearly in the contract items description if you're looking at a text list, or if you're looking at images of the items then BPO's are Dark blue, BPC's are lighter in colour)

For strictly production purposes, people really underrate the value of PE, especially if you're doing any sort of large scale production. It's amazing watching people sink more research into ME deep into diminishing returns (or even well past perfect) while completely ignoring PE.

If you're going to spend X time researching a print, it's a basic optimization problem to determine how much time you should spend on ME and how much time you should spend on PE to maximize isk per hour.

It does get marginally stickier if you include the market value of the researched print itself (ME being more valuable than PE due to slot availability), but if you spend more than a few weeks producing the item, the importance of that value will become very small.

This is true.

Assuming you are not producing so much that you have an impact on prices, going from PE 0 to PE 3 is around a 7% increase in profit per hour. Going from ME 20 to ME 23 is often absolutely irrelevant.

If in doubt, split your research 80% on ME and 20% on PE.

You can get EveMon, create/open a new training plan, click tab "Blueprint browser"
then select any blueprint you want to manufacture/copy/research/invent/etc. The skills required are listed below and can then be added to skill plan, exported, and uploaded for advertising (ex: File "Odyssey - Summer 2013 - Destroyer-Battlecruiser Changes.emp" ).

For manufacturing most T1 items, often the skills required are only Industry I. When you get into T2 and more advanced ships/modules, manufacturing skills required become more training intensive. Beyond that, inventing T3 and some ships/modules will take quite an investment but can be worth the time.
